Biology Expectations Sheet
Biology literally means the study of life. Biologists make observations, ask questions, form hypotheses,
and develop experiments to test their ideas concerning living things and their environment. Obviously, this is a
broad field. As a result, many branches of biology exist…Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, Genetics, Ecology,
Evolution, Zoology, Microbiology, etc. During the year we will survey a number of these areas with the
objective that you will recognize their importance to you and your environment.
Schedule
The objective for the day, activities and homework assignments will be on the board each day when you
arrive in class. Always check this first and record homework assignments in your planner, and then get
prepared so that we may begin immediately.
Test Days
Test days: ODD Days
Make up days: Wednesday afternoons or make arrangements with teacher. I will not hunt you down!!!
Tutorials
I will be available to help you with any material you do not understand Tuesday mornings and
Wednesdays afternoons or by arrangement. I will go the extra mile to assist you…so ask.
Grading for Biology
40% tests…30% labs/projects…20% quiz…10% homework
Teacher Website-Go to http://mhs.springbranchisd.com. Click on Faculty, find science and my name. That
will take you to my web page. From there you can find the information you want including a monthly agenda.
You will also be expected to turn in some lab assignments on Google Docs and make inputs on a blog/wiki for
grades. Information on these will be forthcoming.
Expectations
1. DO ALL YOUR OWN WORK!!! CHEATING AUTOMATICALLY RESULTS IN A 0!!
2. Be ready for class as soon as you enter the room.
3. When something is due at the beginning of the period (homework, lab), it must be turned in before
we start the day’s activities. 1 DAY LATE = 0. PROJECTS 1 DAY LATE = ½ CREDIT.
4. Always bring materials to class… biology binder, pencil, paper!!! You are required (as it is a
grade taken every six weeks) to have a 2 inch binder JUST FOR BIOLOGY divided into five
sections with tabs; warm-ups/vocabulary, notes, study guides, labs, graded papers. All papers given
or graded in this class will be categorized and kept up with for the entire year.
5. MATERIALS YOU NEED TO PURCHASE – 2 INCH BINDER, DIVIDER TABS,
SET OF MARKERS, MAP PENCILS, TISSUES, COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK
6. Behavior: We follow guidelines listed in student handbook and lab rules handout.
My hope for our class is for you to understand some basic biology and health concepts, but more importantly to
critically analyze and evaluate problems and apply our new understanding of topics to solve them.
