The future of farming - ABP UK showcases latest initiatives at the Livestock Event Highlighting its ongoing commitment to sustainable farming, ABP UK has showcased its latest initiatives at the Livestock Event at the Birmingham NEC, including Beef Connect and Blade Farming programmes, as well as the launch of Farmers of the Future, an initiative to encourage more young people into beef production. Working in partnership with Genus ABS, Beef Connect was showcased to farmers attending the event. Designed to deliver better efficiencies across the beef supply chain to benefit UK producers, the initiative sees the two companies working together to develop genetics within cattle herds. Whilst the showcasing of ABP’s Blade Farming initiative at the Livestock Event follows a successful launch to Scotland and Ireland last month, and sees the company furthering its commitment in supporting farmers in producing high quality, sustainable beef. Richard Phelps, Agriculture Director at ABP UK, commented: “We always enjoy coming to the Livestock Event, and our fourth year at the event was no exception. It’s always fantastic to get down on the ground and showcase to farmers how they can benefit from sustainable initiatives such as Beef Connect and Blade Farming, which is spearheading industry practices to positively impact farming across the UK.” Richard continued: “This year at Livestock has been extra special, as it marks the launch of our Farmers of the Future competition to England. The competition is a fantastic opportunity for young farmers to get a helping hand into the farming industry and start rearing their own calves. It’s been great to meet some of these aspiring young farmers and to help them take their first steps into beef production.” The Farmers of the Future competition - which is open to teenagers aged between 12 and 16 who have a keen interest in farming - aims to inspire more young people into beef farming. The two winners will receive six calves to rear with professional guidance from the Blade Farming team and full veterinary support throughout. As well as gaining excellent experience, the winners will also receive the profit from the sale of the calves. Organised by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, the Livestock Event is the leading B2B event for the Livestock Industry and attracts over 450 exhibitors each year.
