Team description

The Community & Events team play a important role within the Supporter
Development Department in increasing support from and engagement of the UK

public through a diverse portfolio of fundraising events, audience management and
volunteer engagement.
Job purpose
This post is responsible for managing and developing WaterAid’s volunteer Local
Group and Speaker networks.
This role will champion supporter engagement and be responsible for building
internal relationships to deliver integration of the supporter experience and
demonstrate the value of volunteering.
Accountabilities
1. Manage (with support from the Community Fundraising Manager) the planning,
delivery (sometimes through others), monitoring and evaluation of all activity to
deliver growth in local group income and non-financial objectives.
2. Manage (with support from the CFM) the planning, delivery (sometimes through
others) monitoring and evaluation of all activity relating to the Speaker Network.
3. Manage delegated income and expenditure budgets and lead on budget plans.
4. Plan and deliver speaker training to volunteers around the UK.
5. Lead on the development of volunteer recruitment and stewardship processes.
6. With the Senior Fundraising Officer support the development and growth of Peer
to Peer activity and second engagement by supporters.
7. Work in an integrated way with colleagues across the Supporter Development
department to ensure volunteers have an exceptional supporter experience
8. Supervise the Community Fundraising Assistant to deliver the administration of
the Speaker Network.
9. Ensure local group fundraising and volunteer management complies with legal
requirements, health and safety and best practice. Champion best practice with
internal stakeholders.
10. Contribute to the delivery of campaigning objectives by the Community and
Events Fundraising team.
11. Manage office volunteers and / or interns by providing clear objectives to enable
them to support delivery of operational plans.

12. Undertake any reasonable tasks requested by the Community Fundraising
Manager or Community and Events Team Leader.

Essential












Degree standard or equivalent professional qualification
Substantial proven experience of recruiting and managing volunteers
Experience of developing and delivering training and / or resources for volunteers
(or staff)
Fundraising experience with proven experience of increasing income
Proven ability to build, manage and develop relationships with people at all levels
from ‘one to one’ to ‘one to many’ using verbal, written and face to face channels.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to work independently and
manage multiple priorities
Proven ability to review and improve processes to deliver efficient work practices
Excellent written and numeracy skills with attention to detail
Ability to use a fundraising database (ideally Raisers Edge)
Good understanding of law and best practise related to community fundraising
and volunteer management
Ability to travel and work varied hours, including evening and weekends
