1 MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Project Coordinator will develop the Willesden Jewish Cemetery Heritage Project.

Willesden Jewish Cemetery is a late Victorian Jewish cemetery containing the graves of 26,000 plus individuals. It is unique in terms of British Jewish heritage and has graves of some of the most notable individuals emanating from the Anglo-Jewish community. The United Synagogue is working to preserve this heritage.

You will be ensuring the delivery of an Activity Plan, Conservation Plan, Management and

Maintenance Plan and an Interpretation Plan for a Heritage Lottery bid ready for sign off in July

2017 and for submission in September 2017. You will complete the Management and

Maintenance Plan with the Board and oversee the delivery of the other plans. You will be expected to work with top professionals within the US and expert(s) in Jewish Heritage to develop a full set of plans for the implementation stage of the project and a stage 2 HLF Lottery

Bid

This will include planning in order to achieve the restoration of the Park as set out in the bid to

HLF, a fully worked out education and activity programme, exhibition design and the redesign of the Jews Garden.

2 POSITION IN ORGANISATION

The Project Coordinator will be line managed by Head of Social and Capital Projects on day to day basis and reports to the US Heritage Committee.

3 SCOPE OF JOB

NATURE & SCOPE

You will be responsible for ensuring the coordination of the development stage of the Willesden

Cemetery Project for Delivery Stage Application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

You will oversee the work of the following consultants on day to day basis ensuring that consultants submit according to time, within the timeline set out by the project board:

 Education Consultant who will to deliver Activity Plan and Interpretation Plan with you

 Conservation Consultant to deliver a Conservation Plan;

 Architect and US QS to take submit the project at RIBA 3 plans;

 Consultants for landscaping;

 Exhibition specialist;

 Access & horticulturalist who will feed into the above plans.

Working with US Burials and US Social and Capital Partnerships you will draw up an activity plan

(although some of this has been done initially following an internal audit of the site).

The plan will look at two areas: the restoration of the ground and the development of greater accessibility through both encouraging guides and developing education projects to increase visitor numbers.

This will be carried out and then developed by the US Burials team and US Social and Capital

Partnerships. The US Burials team will work with you to carry out both the Maintenance and

Management Plan and the Conservation Plan to the site in conjunction with a heritage specialist.

You will develop an Interpretation Plan to look at how best to improve visitor numbers and increase access to the cemetery.

You will work with Heritage Experts to develop a visitor development strategy that opens up access to the site whilst ensuring the security of graves. This will be done with the advice of the Community Security Trust who already partner with us on major security issues. The

Education Coordinator will produce a clear plan and strategy as to how best recruit and train guides from the local communities; engage with schools (mainly those studying about Jewish heritage and culture); engage with local authorities on how best to promote the new resources locally; and to encourage London's Jewish communities, especially United Synagogue members, to champion this heritage.

You will also look at how best to develop a sustainable business model for the park in the future.

This will be done as part of the work.

The Activity Plans and Interpretation Plans will both need to go out for consultation to cultural and heritage stakeholders within the Jewish heritage community, the United Synagogue community at large and local stakeholders and will need to be signed off by the governance structure of the United Synagogue before processing to an application for the delivery date.

This will then allow for revision and the development of the final Project Business Plan to ensure long term sustainability of the project.
