To help residents get a head start, employees of Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. are joining Love INC on Thursday, Nov. 1, to make four homes in the City of Scott more energy-efficient. Since September, Entergy has partnered with several community organizations to improve the energy efficiency of 310 homes of need-based customers throughout Louisiana. The improvements in Scott are being funded by a $5,000 Entergy Charitable Foundation grant to the City of Scott. “Entergy employees organize and participate in energy-efficiency initiatives throughout the year that focus on providing assistance for many of Louisiana’s most vulnerable citizens,” said Entergy Gulf States Louisiana President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Mohl. “For many of our customers, saving on energy expenses often means -more- News Release: Entergy Teams with City of Scott and Love INC for Energy-Efficiency Effort Oct. 30, 2012 Page 2 of 4 having more money to spend each month for other important needs, such as food and medicine. We work with our community partners to make sure that energy-efficiency efforts provide greater comfort and financial relief for those who need it most.” Entergy’s participation in the Scott project is part of a month of employee volunteerism efforts focused on helping customers save energy and money with a series of energy-efficiency initiatives across the state. A total of 370 employee volunteers have participated, representing virtually all Entergy business units operating in Louisiana. Partnering with several community organizations, Entergy employees have improved the energy-efficiency of more than 300 homes of low-income customers in Louisiana since September. “Today’s effort here in the City of Scott to help the quality of life of our elderly and needy community members is very important,” said Purvis J. Morrison, mayor of the City of Scott. “An energy-efficiency program can help with lowering the cost of utility bills and also help in keeping our citizens healthy.” “These energy-efficiency projects provide Love INC with a great opportunity to utilize the skills and talents of volunteers within our local partner churches to help their fellow neighbors in need,” added Lisa Justice, executive director of Love INC of Lafayette. For Entergy’s home energy-efficiency projects, such as the City of Scott initiative, employee and community volunteers caulk around windows, install weather stripping around external doors, replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent ones, change air conditioner filters, install water heater blankets, insulate attics and make other energy-efficiency improvements. Earlier this year, Entergy donated $5,000 to Love INC to support relief efforts for flood victims in Carencro. “Many of these improvements are do-it-yourself projects that are relatively simple to implement and very affordable, too,” said Liz Duhon, Entergy Gulf States Louisiana customer service manager. “Very often, investments in energy efficiency improvements can be recouped through lower energy bills, meaning residents can reap rewards for years to come.” Energy-efficiency improvements also can reap rewards for the environment. “Energy is recognized as a national leader in environmental stewardship, and we take that commitment seriously in Louisiana,” Mohl said. “Engaging our communities in energyefficiency efforts is helping raise awareness of how we can make a positive impact on the environment by making simple adjustments in our energy usage. It’s about making small changes that can have a big impact for our customers and the communities where we live and work.” This year Entergy introduced the “Save Money” program to provide customers with more resources and tools to help lower energy costs.
