Press Note ‘WorldSkills India’ under the aegis of NSDC holds regional competition in Mobile Robotics for WorldSkills Competition 2015 in Brazil ‘WorldSkills India’ is an initiative of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) It is the official body representing the country at the next WorldSkills International Competition, 2015 to be held at Sao Paulo, Brazil NSDC has been spearheading India’s participation in various skills at WorldSkills International Competitions since 2011 The WorldSkills International Competition is the biggest skill competition and is held in different member countries once every 2 years 4th April, 2014; New Delhi: WorldSkills India under the aegis of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), today held the regional (North India) level competition in the ‘Mobile Robotics’ category at Maharaja Agrasen College, Delhi. NSDC in partnership with MIT Academy of Engineering, Festo and Nex-robotics is spearheading the selection of candidates in this category, who will represent India at the next WorldSkills International Competition, in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 11th – 16th August, 2015. Commenting on the competition, Mr. Dilip Chenoy, Managing Director and CEO, National Skill Development (NSDC) said “The WorldSkills competitions provide a fantastic opportunity to benchmark skills within a country, against the rest of the world. At all levels competitors are benchmarked against their peers – locally, nationally and internationally. The primary aim of the competitions is to elevate the level of skills in young people and demonstrate that careers based on the vocational education are viable first choice career options. WorldSkills competitors also act as wonderful ambassadors for their respective trades, their employers and their countries.” “Moreover, with the rapid advancement in technology taking place in our country, robotics industry is expected to grow at a rate twice the global average. Hence, competition such as these will only encourage the youth of our country to come forward and showcase their skills to the world in this domain”, he further added. The candidates will be shortlisted vide a three tier selection process spread across the country, viz., regional, national and final selections. The shortlisted candidates at the national selections will be extensively trained on the Robotino Mobile Robot from Festo and one team shall be finally selected 3 to 4 months prior to the WorldSkills International Competition 2015, on the guidelines of declared test project. NSDC will be organizing similar competitions for 27 skills across the country, which will lead to a National Competition in July-August, 2014 and Final Selection in April, 2015.
