EE-NANOTECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM PARTNER TEACHERS What is THIS? We are looking for teachers of high school science, chemistry, physics or math to partner with UW PhD and Masters level students who have a passion for science, research and education to excite students to become scientists and to encourage teachers to include EE-Nanotechnology (environmental energy) into the standards based science and math curriculum. Why be a Partner Teacher? Partner teachers will increase their level of knowledge about ee-nanotechnology and how engineering can fit into the standard science curriculum. The collaboration between Fellows and Partner teachers and the relationships that develop between the Fellows and students benefits everyone involved. What is required of Partner Teachers? As an EE- Nanotechnology in the classroom PartnerTeacher you are asked to: Serve as a mentor for a UW graduate student to learn quality teaching practices and good communication skills. Partner with a UW graduate student Fellow weekly to incorporate ee-nanotechnology into the existing science or math curriculum and create lesson plans. Serve as a team leader to invite other teachers to incorporate ee-nanotechnology into their curriculum. Attend the Exploring Science Workshop for Teachers, August 1 - 5, 2011 UW Campus Attend a workshop in EE-Nanotechnology given by UW and visiting professors. (TBA) Attend monthly Partner Teacher meetings with program coordinator or grant co PI.(internet). Keep a journal/log of time, curriculum development, professional growth, reflection, Produce a a product from your experience as a Partner Teacher (can be done with Fellow) What are the benefits for Partner Teachers? Partner teachers, and their students, have a unique opportunity to develop relationships with UW graduate students in Engineering to learn how nanotechnology is part of our everyday life. We live in an energy state. This is an opportunity to add to your knowledge of environmental energy matters. The UW students are currently doing research in environmental and energy and medical research using nanotechnology. By sharing their enthusiasm for science and their research with partner teachers and their students, the UW engineering Fellows serve as connection between the classroom and the real world. Partner teachers also receive a stipend of $2500 per semester (2 payments). How can you become a Partner Teacher?
