General Information
Kadina High School’s Work Readiness Achievement Program (WRAP) is an alternative learning pathway to the
traditional HSC pattern of study. The program is designed to provide students with relevant and meaningful
educational experiences and is tailored to the skills, interests and aspirations of young people with a focus on
vocational and living skills.
On completion of the course in Year 12, students may qualify for a HSC or alternatively, may be certified with a
Kadina Certificate of Senior Schooling, detailing and recognising the skills and competencies achieved in the
program.
The WRAP course of study is divided into three major components.
Occupying a central and valued place in the program is the Workplace Learning component. This commits to
assist students, where possible, to undertake and complete school based traineeships and apprenticeships
suited to their interests and aspirations, giving them a platform from which to move into permanent employment
in the community. Workplace learning occurs one full day each week.
The Vocational Learning component allows students to select from the range of School VET course offered
within the Lismore Community of Secondary Schools and from TVET courses offered at the North Coast TAFE.
The third component of WRAP is an Integrated Learning program where by students develop their literacy,
numeracy, technological and employment related skills. This component will involve project based learning
where students will be encouraged to develop and implement projects that enhance their sense of social
responsibility, belonging and contribution to society. There will also be a focus on home and living skills,
assisting students to develop the skills required to live independently in the community.
The program strives to achieve these goals through partnerships and collaborations with local community and
environmental groups, local businesses and local government.

competence can perform the task or show an understanding to the level required by industry standards.
All School VET and TVET courses have a mandatory work place component. In general, students are required
to undertake a minimum of 70 hours of work placement over a two-year period.
Work Place Learning
All students completing the WRAP course are required to complete one full day of Workplace Learning each
week. This may take the form of work experience; on the job training as part of a school-based traineeship or
apprenticeship; or a part-time job already held, or gained by the student.
Students undertaking school-based apprenticeship or traineeship training contracts, and who are also entered for
the appropriate HSC VET course for formal off-the-job training may be eligible to undertake the Industry-based

Responsibilities of a WRAP Student
Students have the following responsibilities in this program:
Attendance:
Students are expected to follow the normal attendance procedures for senior students as outlined in the
‘Assessment Information for Students & Their Parents\Carers’. They will be required to attend school and all
classes scheduled for them and their timetable. Satisfactory attendance not only applies to classes at school, it
also applies to TAFE courses and work placement.
Dress Requirements:
Whilst attending school, students are required to wear school uniform and follow the normal uniform procedures
for senior students.
In the workplace, students are to dress appropriately for the work they are undertaking. Many workplaces have
dress and footwear requirements related to safety and hygiene and it is essential that students dress
accordingly. Failure to follow these requirements may result in a student being withdrawn from that workplace.
General Behaviour:
Students are expected to follow the guidelines of the Kadina High School discipline policy and the Positive
Behaviour and Learning Matrix as stated in the Student Information Handbook.
Reports involving unsatisfactory conduct by students, either at school, at TAFE or in the workplace will result in
consequences as outlined in the Student Information Handbook and may result in a review of that student’s
position in the course.
Satisfactory Completion of Course Requirements:
Students are expected to follow the same criteria as set for the Higher School Certificate. Any student
experiencing difficulty within the course, whether in the school, TAFE or work placement component, should
bring this to the attention of the WRAP facilitator so that issues may be resolved promptly.
Where a student fails to complete any part of the course or does not satisfy course requirements, official warning
letters will be issued according to the Process for the Determination of N Awards as outlined in the ‘Assessment
Information for Students & Their Parents\Carers’.
Celebration of Success
Kadina High School encourages the active and public recognition and celebration of student success.
Throughout the WRAP course students will have the opportunity to accumulate merit awards, celebration points
