Total earning potential: $85,520 - $92,948* Note: This position is suitable for female applicants only due to the cultural sensitivities of the work The Child Nutrition Program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-5 years residing in NPY member communities. This is achieved through individual family support and case management for children who are growth faltering or at risk; child nutrition education and promotion through community based workshops; support to local communities to increase their capacity to develop and implement community based nutrition programs and strategies and; locally developed and produced resources. About the role: The Senior Program Officer is responsible for assisting the Child and Family Wellbeing Services Manager and team to effectively perform their work with Anangu communities, NPYWC staff and relevant internal and external services in the implementation, development and delivery of services which best meet the needs of vulnerable families living in the NPY region. More specifically, in conjunction with the Manager, you will: Assist with the orientation and mentoring of new staff, including the support of those who work and/or live in a remote community; Provide ongoing support, development and mentoring for Anangu Family Support Workers to build their individual and team capacity to support the delivery of the program; Provide direct support and supervision to Child Nutrition staff; Build vicarious trauma awareness in staff including self-care and the management of risk; Assist with work plans and delivery of nutrition workshops and education; Assess referrals, liaise with referring bodies and allocate families to Nutrition Development Officers; Support staff to establish partnerships and networks with related services and programs to better address the needs of children and their families; Work together with the program staff to source, develop and produce appropriate and innovative resource material to raise the awareness of good nutrition and parenting of children; Submit report documentation at allocated times as per program funding requirements; Provide advocacy support when necessary for families as well as the greater NPYWC organisation with regards to gaps in services for vulnerable families and the need for culturally and linguistically appropriate resources; and Assist NPY member communities to identify needs and gaps in the provision of services for children and work with the CNP team to advocate these needs to relevant government and non-government agencies. What we are looking for: We are seeking passionate and motivated individuals with significant experience in public health, family support work, outreach work and/or case management. Additionally, the successful candidate will have: Experience in the development and implementation of projects and policy. An ability to provide leadership, mentoring and support to staff in relation to human service provision. Excellent interpersonal and logistical skills including team management, conflict resolution, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills. Formal qualifications in either the health, human services or early childhood related fields; or significant and demonstrated experience in conducting health promotion, education and/or family support activities including supervision and support of staff. Strong written and verbal communication skills. An understanding of the issues that affect the health of Aboriginal people in remote communities, particularly children would be highly desirable.
