The course is intended to prepare students for the understanding of language functioning in the society. PREREQUISITES KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL HAVING GENERAL BACKGROUND IN LINGUISTICS KNOWLEDGE: LEARNING OUTCOMES BY THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT CAN DEFINE BASIC RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SOCIAL FACTORS AND LINGUISTIC FEATURES OF LANGUAGE USERS SKILLS: BY THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO POINT OUT THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL FACTOR ON THE PHONETIC, MORPHOLOGICAL AND SYNTACTIC STRUCTURE FINAL COURSE OUTPUT - SOCIAL COMPETENCES THE STUDENT: - IS ABLE TO COMMUNICATE COHERENTLY HIS CRITICAL OPINIONS - IS AWARE OF THE LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY RESULTING FROM CULTURAL AND SOCIAL DIFFERENCES COURSE ORGANISATION –LEARNING FORMAT AND NUMBER OF HOURS LECTURES – 15 HOURS COURSE DESCRIPTION LECTURES Introducing basic terms: geographical and social dialect, accent, style, register Language and social class. Phonetic lexical and grammatical features of chosen 2 2 sociolects.
