We have an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time
ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST
In this position you will be the right hand to the Manager of Capital Assets and Construction Engineering.
You enjoy a balance of office work and site visits. You have some knowledge of AutoCAD, Architectural
drawing and specification development, the Ontario Building Code, On-site measurement procedures, and
can accurately process data input/extraction. You are independent, have initiative, sound judgement and
excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal with a diverse group of stakeholders.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
In the field
 Conduct forensic residential site inspections to record structural defects, take photos and gather
information for your follow-up report
 Meet with Contractors, Consultants, City Officials
 Attend Property Review and Board meetings
 Take On site measurements of existing buildings interior and exterior
In the office
 Prepare Construction drawings and as-built drawings using Auto-Cad
 Support the development and organization of annual capital asset management plans, capital
projects, and construction specifications.
 Support all stages of design, estimating, tendering, construction progress and project close-out
 Provide data input/extraction and project analysis through tracking productivity, costs, and
schedules.
 Issue purchase orders for the Capital Assets and Construction Engineering Department.
 Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
 Respond appropriately to phone inquiries from Consultants, Contractors, City Officials
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
 Have some experience using Auto-Cad and Google Sketch-Up
 Familiar with residential construction practices, project management, property maintenance and
preventative maintenance practices.
 Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
 Understand Contract and Construction Administration principles.
 Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Building Act, and the Fire Code Act.
 Proficient use of computer software applications (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, YARDI, and Asset
Planner).
 Demonstrate, maintain, and exhibit ethical construction practices.
 Ability to assist in dispute resolution with contractors.





Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment and discretion
Bondable.
MINIMUM COMBINATION OF IN-PROGRESS EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
 Ontario Building Code Association courses and/or 3-year community college program (e.g.
Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Construction Engineering Technology)
 1-2 years of work experience in a construction or engineering field that includes:
 AutoCAD
 Experience working with CCDC contracts
 Specifications writing
 Construction estimating
 Preparation of drawings
 Ontario Building Code and Fire Code Review

One or more of the following would be a strong asset:
 Membership with OACETT, AATO, OAAAS, OBOA
 Professional Quantity Surveyor status
 BCIN certified
 Relevant experience in the construction field
 Skills in transcription report and specification writing and typing
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:




Have and maintain a valid and unrestricted class G license for the class of the vehicle operated
Have daily access to a reliable vehicle to travel to various locations
Successful candidate will be subject to a current and satisfactory Police Check
This position is open to those legally entitled to work for any employer in Canada.
Salary Range:
Starting salary is $50,000 pa, with potential incremental growth to $60,000

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday, between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
