1. Apologies: Joanna Wilkins, Sarah Mott, Ngaio Harding-Hill, Alex Catherine,
Elaine Beckett, Mel Ridout.
2. Minutes of the last meeting 22 April 2015
Minutes approved will be sent for uploading to website.
Matters arising:
D of E logging system now available at school should speed up process.
Internet safety talk will be arranged for a future PTA meeting.
Refreshments at Gym and Dance Show raised £160.10 (cans of Boddingtons left
over are available for sale).
3. Summer Fair:
Set up 10 – 11.30am
Handfuls of Harmony ‘Big Sing’ 2.30 – 3.30 pm.
PTA will be on the door, run a tea and cakes stall and a second hand uniform
stall.
It was suggested that we bring in outside catering because of the potential large
number of people attending.
Dog Show will run from 12.30 – 13.30.
Raffle draw at 1.45pm. Kathy Leney has sourced a good selection of prizes from
local businesses.
Sara F will see if Bridget (Vee Double Moo) can come and sell ice-creams, if she
is not able to Jackie T will find an alternative.
Sara F will lend bunting, possibly also source from Hillcrest and SCDA (Sarah
Jones).
Pam Beddard to work together with Naomi to co-ordinate publicity for Choir and
School.
It was suggested that all parents of the new Yr 7 intake should be invited to the
Fair. Teresa will do this at New Intake evening Thurs June18
We discussed whether banners advertising the fair could go up and how these
could be sourced. Perhaps there are parents who would be able to provide them
more cheaply? Something to investigate for future years.
Also discussed First Aid provision: St John’s ambulance? And wet weather
provision. Tessa suggested that although the concert would still go ahead, the
Fair would probably not (or possibly only in a very limited capacity – teas and
uniform sale?).
Need walkie-talkies, cables for PA and a megaphone.
4. Meet Mark Williams (Chair of governors). Mark came to introduce himself.
Emphasised the importance of links between parents and governors. Two keys
areas will be up for discussion over the next few months: the Sixth Form offer and
the examination of the possible change in status of the School to Multi Academy
Trust.
5. Work experience and related matters:
Becci has produced a new recording form to gather information about
careers/work experience help which parents could give the school. SH will discuss
the form with Paul Miller and Kathy Jemmott. It was suggested that with the
development of the 6th Form offer with students being offered ‘pathways’ to
careers, parental help might be useful here too.
6. Boosting membership of Friends of Ashton Park Facebook page (Pam). Becci
felt that membership was growing slowly and steadily and that this is the nature of
such groups.
7. Co-operative Trust update (Ingrid).
A reminder of what the ~Co-operative Trust stands for: working together and
community. At a future PTA meeting we will have a more detailed discussion
about the role of the Trust and how it may develop. Roger White (Chair of Trust)
will be invited. The implications of a change in the status of the school on role of
the Trust will also be examined.
8. AOB
