Press Release Exhibition and presentation at the GreenSolutionsCenter Up-Cycling of Fluoropolymers and Sustainable 3M Technologies at the IndustrialGreenTec 2014 in Hannover Among examples of sustainability solutions 3M will present an innovative Up-Cycling process of recovering monomers from fluoropolymer waste at the IndustrialGreenTec, which is part of the Hannover Fair taking place from April 7th to 11th 2014 in Hannover, Germany. The company exhibits at the shared exhibition stand of the German Sustainability Award. 3M was awarded in the category “resource efficiency” in 2013. Dyneon GmbH, a 3M Company, presents an innovative “UpCycling” technology which recovers monomers from end of life fluoropolymer waste with a very high yield. The waste will be decomposed by means of pyrolysis, the monomer purified and subsequently fed back into the manufacturing process. In consequence, the fluoropolymer loop will be closed for the very first time and as a result, resources can be saved – a major breakthrough with respect to true sustainability for these precious materials which are indispensible in a range of industrial applications such as linings in the chemical industry and automotive parts. This first newly established industry-scale Up-Cycling plant for fluoropolymers operates at a capacity of 500 tons a year. Seite 2 von 3 Initially, the plant will process fully fluorinated end of life polymer waste, such as unfilled PTFE, FEP and PFA. In a later phase it will also process PTFE compounds containing fillers. In addition to the exhibits at the shared exhibition stand Dr. Thorsten Schwalm, Project manager Up-Cycling at Dyneon GmbH in Burgkirchen, Germany, will give a presentation on UpCycling at the Forum GreenSolutionsCenter on Tuesday, April 8th 2014 at 11:30 h. 3M in Hall 6/Stand K02, shared exhibition stand of the German Sustainability Award Please provide a specimen copy if you publish this article.
