18th March 2013 Dear Parents or Carers I am organising a trip to France in the Summer Term of 2014 for Y8 pupils. I have provisionally booked a 5 day visit from Monday 30th June to Friday 4th July. Travel will be by coach and either ferry or Eurostar. We shall again be staying at the Château du Broutel, a highly-recommended centre set in its own 40 acre estate in Rue, Normandy and one hour’s drive from Calais. It offers excellent accommodation, very good food and extensive leisure facilities, including organised evening activities (for example a treasure hunt, team games and a disco). There is a full and varied itinerary, which will promote the pupils’ use of French and will also focus on history. We shall have a guided tour of the Somme, where we shall visit the Musée des Abris (an underground museum of the First World War), Newfoundland Park and the British and German trenches. There will be a full day’s sightseeing excursion to Paris, where we shall visit several attractions. There will also be shopping opportunities as we travel to the market at le Touquet, and then a chocolate factory and a wheat farm. On the final day, we shall explore the local village of Rue before lunch at the château and our journey home. The cost of the trip is £465 which includes full board, insurance and all entrance fees. As so many pupils now have their own passport, we no longer use a collective one. Pupils taking part in the trip will therefore need their own passport. They will also need a sleeping bag. The money is to be paid in 4 instalments – a first deposit of £50 (which is non-refundable if your child cancels and no replacement can be found), £150 in October, £130 in January, and the final payment of £135 in March 2014. Demand for places usually exceeds the number of those available, so they will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis. All applications must be handed to me personally, rather than at the office, so that we know the exact order in which they arrive. We must point out to you that, for reasons of safety and enjoyment, if your child’s behaviour causes problems in or out of lessons from now until the trip, the school has the right to withdraw him or her from the party. There will be a “Code of Conduct” agreement to be signed by pupils taking part in the trip and their parents, to ensure we can trust that the school’s and the travel firm’s expectations of behaviour will be met. If you wish your child to be considered for a place on this trip, please complete the form below and return it to school by this Friday, 22nd March. Please do not send any money yet. If your child is successful in securing a place, I will inform you on Monday. I shall then ask for the £50 deposit to be paid by Thursday, 28th March. If you have any questions about the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me at school. Yours sincerely Miss D Fares Art Department Christ Church Academy - TRIP TO FRANCE, July 2014 I wish my child …………………………………………………… Class ……………………………, to be considered for a place on the trip to France.
