KALAHEO MUSTANG FOOTBALL
CODE OF CONDUCT
We believe that student-athletes in the football program at Kalaheo High School should conduct
themselves to the highest standards towards being a good scholar, good sportsman and good
citizen. Athletes in this program are expected to be respectful, courteous, responsible, humble,
and act like a gentleman at all times. Athletes are required to follow this Code of Conduct all
year, whether they are in school or not.
In addition to all other rules that govern all Kalaheo High School student/athletes, participants in
the football program will be governed by the following rules:
As a participant in the Kalaheo High School Football Program, I agree to the following Code of
Conduct:
1. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
Players must be eligible according to the rules stated by Kalaheo High School Athletics in
accordance with the OIA and the HHSAA. Players on academic probation will be required to
attend a Study Hall to improve their grades to become eligible. Academic probation does not
exclude a player from responsibility to the football program. Players will respond to coaches’
requests for improvement in academic courses. We will try to do all we can as a program to help
the athlete to attain better grades but the athlete and his family must also do their best to achieve
success. Failure to get oneself eligible can be seen as an act of defiance, and may/could result in
some / or all of the following.
1. Counseling/Parent Meeting/Extra Study Hall
2. COACHES RUN (10 HILLS)
3. Suspension of Game/Games
4. Dismissal
2. CLASS ATTENDANCE/TARDY
Players must attend their classes. Being absent from a class (also cutting a class) without an
excused reason will also counted as an absence from practice. Tardiness is also seen as an act of
defiance and will be treated as an absence as well. See #3 as per consequences.
**NO PLAYER WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY FOOTBALL ACTIVITY
Until a Clearance is issued from the Athletic Trainers
(The paperwork that is required is Physical Form, Parent Consent Form)
Players must attend mandatory workouts, practices, meetings, fellowships, and be on time.
Failure to attend a mandatory meeting, practice, workouts, or fellowship without prior excused
notification to the Head Football Coach, or a life/death emergency arise, may/will result in:
First Offense:

Second Offense
10 UP DOWNS x 2
Third Offense
10 UP DOWNS x 2 / Half Game Suspension
Fourth Offense
10 UP DOWNS x 2 / Full Game Suspension
Fifth Offense
10 UP DOWNS x 2 / Game Suspension
Sixth Offense
DISMISSAL
A Mandatory workout, practice, meetings, fellowship includes the following:




Workouts: Weights/if you are not involved in another sport
Practices: Spring through the End of Football Season the next year
**Once Summer practices start you are allowed 5 absences to take care of family
vacations
And appointments (Head Coach must be informed)
If you are Tardy it may/will result in: (again if prior notice is not given to the Head Football
Coach or a life/death emergency arise)

4. BEHAVIOR ON AND OFF THE FIELD
Players will be Respectful to all Students, School Employees, Officials, Coaches, Teachers,
Parents, Family Members, and anyone you come into contact with, while representing Kalaheo
High School Football Program.

Players will refer to Coaches as “Coach” all others as “Mr. or Mss.”
Players will be on the field at 3:30 for early outs.
Players will maintain their Composure /Emotions at all times.
Players will not argue, have a bad attitude towards officials, teachers, school personnel
Players will not receive a Kalaheo High School Referral of any kind.
Players will not curse or swear, will refrain from unsportsmanlike gestures.
Players will refrain from horseplay, rough housing on and off the field.
Players will not litter in locker room/campus and classroom and will clean up after themselves.
Players will not wear cleats in the locker room.
Players will wear clean uniforms/practice gear as deemed possible.
Players MUST Shower to promote good health.
Players will treat School Property with care, responsible, respect and pride.
Vandalism will be punished and could result in a monetary fine, and possible prosecution by the
school.
Players will not haze or engage in any hazing of any sorts upon any teammate or classmates.
Players will conduct themselves in a responsible and respectful manner wherever and
whenever the team travels. Players will also travel with the team and come back with the
Team, unless arrangements are made prior with the Athletic Director.
Players will not fight amongst themselves; this shows a total disrespect towards the team.
Players are expected at all times, to maintain a level of behavior and conduct which does not
discredit themselves, the school, their family, and the team.
5. DETRIMENTAL SUBSTANCES
Tobacco, Alcohol, and Illegal Drugs of any kind have no place in the life of an Athlete and will
not be tolerated. Disciplinary actions for the use and procession of substances on school property,
activities and at non-school activities will be taken in accordance with Kalaheo High School
Drug Policies. Team disciplinary actions may/will take place after school policies have been
administered, or also may/could take place simultaneously with school disciplinary actions.
Team Disciplinary Actions are as follows: (Again, this has to be in accordance with and through
communication with school officials and policies.)
First Offense
10 UP DOWNS plus 10 Gasers and 10 Hills
Verbal Apology to Team
Community Service
(determined by the Head Coach)
Second Offense
Suspension of Game/Games/Year/Dismissal
6. GRADE CHECKS
Players will submit a Grade Check Sheet with all their Classes, Grades and Signatures of their
teachers at the appropriate Grade Check Dates. If an Athlete is on Probation, that Athlete must be
passing all their classes at Grade Check Time to be Eligible to play. If not, they must continue to
practice until they become eligible. If they are not on Probation, then having an F Grade is not
subject to missing a game by OIA rules, but could be in violation of the team rules. This is in
accordance with the rules of the OIA, and if not followed may result in:

7. CARE AND USE OF EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS
Players will dress properly for all workouts, practices, team fellowships and games. Properly
means: no Jewelry, no Do Rags, clean gear, and No player will modify or alter issued
equipment/uniform, or wear any equipment/uniform (except shoes) not issued by the school
without the permission of the Head Football Coach. All equipment/uniforms must be turned in at
the appropriate time.
If a player is not properly attired it may result in:
First Offense
10 UP DOWNS/correct the attire
Second Offense
10 UP DOWNS x 2 plus 10 Gasers correct the attire
Third Offense
10 UP DOWNS x 3 plus 15 Gasers correct the attire
Fourth Offense
Suspension of game/games
Fifth Offense
Billed/Dismissal
8. GROOMING AND DRESS
Players will be properly groomed and dress at all times. The school dress code will be enforced.
In the spirit of a Team Concept of Togetherness; nothing that displays outlandish individuality
will be tolerated. If a player is not properly groomed or dressed, refer to #7 consequences.
9. QUITTING / REJOINING THE TEAM / LATE TURNOUT
We believe that no one is perfect and we also understand that we are dealing with young adults,
so mistakes will be made, and also hopefully be corrected. If an athlete does quit and would like
to rejoin the team, in order to be reinstated, the athlete must first meet with the Head Football
Coach. Then these other steps may follow:
(Exceptions could be made for Transfers and Entering New Freshmen)

10. FUNDRASING/POTLUCK
Each Athlete is responsible in doing their part in Fundraising and Team Potlucks. Failure to do
so may result in:
1. Meeting with Head Coach
2. Team RUNS/Suspension/Other Replacement Services
11. PLAYING TIME
This is earned and the BEST will play, all others will compete with the BEST for playing time.
We will do our best to play as many as possible on the Varsity / JV Level.
12. OTHER SITUATIONS
If a Situation arises that is not covered by the Code of Conduct and is detrimental to the Football
Teams Character and what the Team and Staff stands for, then on the discretion of the Head
Football Coach, that Situation can/may be discussed and dealt with as deemed appropriate.

the Kalaheo High School Football Staff. I/We agree to comply with all the rules and procedures
stated for participation and being a part of the football team and program.
I accept this Code of Conduct as morally binding and will honor each item in this Code of
Conduct.
