Bring a pen, pencil, binder, dictionary and any assignments to class with you. 2. You are to be seated, not walking through the door, when the bell rings. 3. You will not work on assignments for other classes. This is not a study hall. 4. You will not listen to music unless given permission by the teacher. 5. Do not talk while others are talking. 6. Respect others’ property and feelings, including the schools, your classmates’ and mine. 7. Do not pack up your materials at the end of the period until I have finished speaking. Responsibility Points: Class interruptions and bad behavior situations are not beneficial to the learning process in the classroom and will not be tolerated. Some examples are: inappropriate gestures, newspaper/book reading, crossword puzzles or other games or distracters, doing homework during class, studying for other classes, using gadgets such as cell phones, calculators, laptops/netbooks, mp3 players. Make sure that your cell phones are turned off before entering the classroom. Any of these actions mentioned above will affect your RESPONSIBILITY grade. Every student will begin each term with 15 responsibility points. Every time you are irresponsible, break the rules, cause a class disruption, etc., you will lose one responsibility point. If you lose all responsibility points, every reason for loss of points will be referred to the office for discipline. Class participation is based on active participation. Class participation will be worth 20 points for each term. You may earn one point per day. You can earn these points by volunteering to read aloud, write on the board, answer questions, etc. You must be present to participate! Your absences will affect your participation grade. Online Practice: As scheduling allows we will have class in the computer lab one time per week. You will be required to complete 20 online activities as assigned by your teacher throughout the school year. Some work may need to be completed on your own time as well. Tests and quizzes: Tests and quizzes will be given in the form of paper and pencil tests, oral exams, hands-on activities, projects and presentations. As we will cover a substantial amount of material this school year, we will have occasional quizzes between major tests, in order for your teacher and for you to evaluate how you are progressing in class. You will always know about all tests and quizzes at least one day in advance. 2 Homework includes reading work, communication activities, and short writing activities you will complete on a daily basis. If you don’t do your homework you will not fully understand the concepts presented. Every sentence written will be worth a ½ point. Every one-word answer will be worth a ¼ point. Late homework is not accepted. Attendance and Missing Work: In case of absences YOU are responsible for consulting SchoolWires and for communicating with your classmates to get information about class activities and the homework you need to complete. It is important that you have some of your classmates’ e-mails and phone numbers. You may also email your teacher to find out the work you missed or consult the calendar and binder on the counter in the back of the room. You have 5 days to make up any homework or tests after an unplanned absence. Field trips, sports activities, music festivals, doctor appointments, or any other planned absences are not excuses for not preparing for class or for not completing homework. For planned absences, all assignments musts be handed in the day you return to class and you must take any tests or quizzes that were missed the day of the planned absence or any test scheduled for the day you return. Make ups and Re-Takes: Any student that receives a letter grade of a D or an E on any test or quiz (final exams and oral quizzes excluded) has the opportunity to re-take the test and the scores will be averaged together. The re-takes must be taken within the term they were given. If you need to make up or re-take a test or a quiz you may come between 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m., during homeroom, during a study hall, or between 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. This is your responsibility. If your five days have passed and your work is not made up they will become zeros. Final examination: The final exam will be given according to the schedule set out by the building principal each semester. If you are absent for the final exam, without prior notice of absence, you must present documentation from a parent or guardian stating the reason you were unable to come to school on exam day. It is also important that you talk to your teacher to let her know that you will need to take your final exam at a date other than that scheduled. If you do not provide a reason for absence of the final exam, you will take the extremely difficult make up exam. Oral Quizzes: We will practice phrases monthly that will help you to speak Spanish more fluently. The last Friday of each month there will be an oral quiz based on the phrases we will practice. Portfolios: Throughout the year you will be working on a portfolio that will show your good work and effort in this class. The portfolio will be due May 27, 2016 and must be turned in during your class period or before. Failure to turn them in on time will result in ½ credit for the first day missed and no credit for any days after. Details of the portfolio will be presented shortly. Grades: For each progress report and for each grading period you will be shown a printout of your grade. You will be required to read it through and sign it to confirm that you are aware of your grade at that point in time. These papers will be collected and filed for future reference. Bonus Opportunities: Quote of the Day-Everyday there will be a quote located on the right dry erase board. The first 2 people from each class to interpret the quote will earn one bonus point. The quotes will change daily as they are interpreted. You may earn 10 points per term. Pinteresante-It’s like Pinterest in Spanish. On the bulletin board in the back of the classroom there are “boards” entitled A Visitar, La Comida y La Bebida, Festivales y Celebraciones, Arte, Musica y Deportes, A Leer, La Historia, and La Gente Famosa. You may post anything you find interesting from a Spanish-speaking country to each of the respective boards. You will earn one bonus point for each pin. You may earn 10 points per term. Bonus Assignments-Each term you will have the opportunity to do one 10-point bonus assignment. I will decide the topic of these assignments of which you will have one week to complete. 3
