Cognate Faculty Liaison for Partner Programmes Academic Liaison Person role duties The ALP Role The role of the ALP provided is designed to provide benefits to the following: 1. the partnership programme 2. the cognate faculty 3. Academic Partnerships This document defines the role requirements as needed by Academic Partnerships (AP), which includes the reporting of Standards and Quality for AP assurance purposes. It does not include any further reporting an ALP may be required to make to their School and Faculty. The two types of ALPs: - Cognate-Subject Specialist/Progression Route ALP: where there is a progression route to a programme at the University there is clear cognatesubject alignment. The programme managers for those progression routes ultimately have the closest relationship with alignment and progression issues, and are therefore best placed to receive the benefits of early communication with, and understanding of the activities of the partner programme teams. It is therefore recommended that these ALPs be the progression route programme manager/lead. All Aims/Objectives listed below are relevant to this role. - Cognate Faculty ALP: where these is no progression route to the University (i.e. the programme only exists as an exit qualification, progression is within the partnership itself or to other HEIs, or the partner programme is either at level-6 or post graduate) then the key activities of this role is to keep the cognate faculty informed of the activity in the partnership and, from this standpoint, to offer ‘critical friendship’ to the partner. Aims/Objectives 1, 2 and 6 are the more relevant to this role. The Procedures: 1. Annual – Autumn Term: ALP to communicate with partnership PM(s) to arrange the minimum of one hosted visit to each partnership programme per year. This should occur at a time that is mutually convenient. This meeting should enable aims and objectives 1–5 to be met. Annual – Spring and Summer Terms: ALP to review any appropriate programme proposal and change proformas that may arise, when passed from the Faculty Partnership Manager (FPM). 3. Continuous: ALP to act as contact point for partnership PM(s)’s subject specific and progression related ad-hoc queries. 4. Annual – End Summer Term: ALP to produce a report, following the attached template, for their FPM. Aims and Objectives: 1. Aim: Maintain an informed understanding of how specific programmes in the partnership ‘extend the subject-area brands’ of the cognate school/faculty. Objective: Annually discuss with partner Programme Managers (PM) delivery and assessment within the parameters of programme structure and DMRs. 2. Aim: Maintain an informed understanding and represent the cognate school/faculty standpoint in respect to new and existing partnership programme developments. Objective: Act as contact point for early discussion and UPC document review, aiding the informing of ADT&L or Dean sign-off at timed points in the annual cycle. 3. Aim: Informing partnership programme PMs of cognate programmes, school and faculty changes. Objective: Annually meet with partnership programme PMs to discuss changes and the impact on those programmes, with due consideration of existing/legacy students and each college’s needs to prepare for their coming year’s intake of level-4 students. 4. Aim: Act as initial contact for collegiate discussion and expansion of HE ethos in specific subject area, enabling development of where partnership programmes ‘extend the subject-area brands’ of the cognate school/faculty. Objective: Annually meet with partnership PMs to facilitate mutual exchange of knowledge and concepts through critical friend discussion and identification of opportunities for closer working. Additionally provide point of contact for more immediate and ad-hoc developments. 5. Aim: Act as initial contact for progression agreement and logistics, including Honours project preparation. Improving the ALP’s understanding of expected numbers and potential issues, as these invariably end up on their desk anyway. Objective: Annually meet with partnership PMs to inform/clarify arrangements for the current year, and act as point of contact for those PMs throughout the year. Aim: To inform Annual Programme Monitoring process for each partnership programme through cognate programme/school/faculty reflection on the above. Objective: Annually provide a written report to the relevant FPM, for FPM discussion with partnership PMs and subsequent FPM review of resultant Action Plans. Commitment Required from Faculties: In response to provision of programme lists relevant to each school, Head of Schools to ensure comprehensive provision of ALPs to cover all programmes delivered by partner institutions.
