Cognate Faculty Liaison for Partner Programmes
Academic Liaison Person role duties
The ALP Role
The role of the ALP provided is designed to provide benefits to the following:
1. the partnership programme
2. the cognate faculty
3. Academic Partnerships
This document defines the role requirements as needed by Academic Partnerships
(AP), which includes the reporting of Standards and Quality for AP assurance
purposes. It does not include any further reporting an ALP may be required to make
to their School and Faculty.
The two types of ALPs:
-
Cognate-Subject Specialist/Progression Route ALP: where there is a
progression route to a programme at the University there is clear cognatesubject alignment. The programme managers for those progression routes
ultimately have the closest relationship with alignment and progression issues,
and are therefore best placed to receive the benefits of early communication
with, and understanding of the activities of the partner programme teams. It is
therefore recommended that these ALPs be the progression route programme
manager/lead.
All Aims/Objectives listed below are relevant to this role.
-
Cognate Faculty ALP: where these is no progression route to the University
(i.e. the programme only exists as an exit qualification, progression is within
the partnership itself or to other HEIs, or the partner programme is either at
level-6 or post graduate) then the key activities of this role is to keep the
cognate faculty informed of the activity in the partnership and, from this
standpoint, to offer ‘critical friendship’ to the partner.
Aims/Objectives 1, 2 and 6 are the more relevant to this role.
The Procedures:
1. Annual – Autumn Term: ALP to communicate with partnership PM(s) to arrange
the minimum of one hosted visit to each partnership programme per year. This
should occur at a time that is mutually convenient.
This meeting should enable aims and objectives 1–5 to be met.
