Licensed Specialists in School Psychology/ Special Education Counseling Services LSSPs/Special Education Counselors work with students who demonstrate behavioral, and/or socialemotional difficulties in the school setting that prevents them from progressing at a similar rate of their peers. LSSP’s and SpEd Counselors provide support to Special Education students in the form of evaluations, interventions, classroom strategies, behavior intervention plans, social skills training, crisis management and counseling support. If a student is exhibiting behavioral/social difficulties in school, the school staff may contact the LSSP to provide consultation for intervention strategies. If the student demonstrates minimal progress after interventions and supports, the campus team and parent my want to consider an evaluation to determine if the child meets a disability criteria for special education. LSSP’s primarily conduct evaluations and support for students with an Emotional Disturbance, Autism and ADHD. However, they are available for support all special education students with behavioral and social/ emotional needs.
