3rd Quarter Assignment: A Year in Review ASSIGNMENT: Create a booklet that illustrates a specific year in American history. Each student will choose a different year, so decide early. Be sure to follow the due dates and complete the project on time. Each book must include: I. II. III. IV. V. VI. VII. VIII. IX. X. XI. XII. XIII. Timeline—one distinct event for each month of the year. World News—7-10 one-sentence summaries of world events. National News—7-10 one-sentence summaries of American events. Sports News—7-10 one-sentence summaries of sporting events. Book/Radio/Television Favorites—list 3-5 top books and shows. Dances/Music/Movies—list the top dance craze, top ten songs and top five films. Interesting Facts—world leaders, prize winners, Miss America, etc. Fads for the Year—what was popular then and only then. Prices—cost of living, food, entertainment, etc. Birth Notices—list and give a brief biography of 2-5 famous people born that year. Include a calendar for the year. Ads for products in use at the time—at least ten throughout the book. References—list your sources for information Due Dates: January 21-27—choose your year February 4—timeline due February 12—world, national, and sports news due February 19—top books, radio and TV shows, dances, songs, and movies February 26—interesting facts and fads March 5—prices and birth notices March 12—booklet due These items can be typed or handwritten. While you will have some opportunities to work on the assignment in class, especially to put together your booklet, some work will need to be completed outside of class.
