Dear Parents and Carers,
A few years ago we launched a maths booklet called The Teaching of Number at Patcham
Junior School which outlined the mental and written strategies we use in addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division (the 4 rules) in each year group. Parents have found this booklet
really useful as an aid to understanding the progression in number across the school. As the
children have moved up a year group, you may want to find that booklet again and look at the
strategies your child will be learning this year. Families of Year 3 children will be given a
booklet. If you have lost your booklet or are new to the school, you can request a new one
from the school office.
I will be running numeracy meetings for parents/carers where I will be sharing and explaining
the strategies we use for the 4 rules. These meetings will take place from 3:45 – 4:30 in
classroom 7. Your child will be able to watch a DVD in the green hall and will be supervised
for this period.
The dates of the meetings are as follows:
Year 3 – Monday 14th October
Year 4 – Tuesday 15th October
Year 5 and 6 – Wednesday 16th October
Do not worry if you are unable to attend these meetings as the booklet clearly explains the
strategies.
