Seventh Grade Core Information We are off to a great start in 7th grade! We want you to know that your 7th grade core teachers want you to be successful and we communicate with each other very regularly. We work collaboratively to provide you with the best experience possible while in 7th grade. The following are some common core standards that we follow in 7th grade. We ask that you read over them, keep this information in a safe place, and return the second page signed to Ms. Andino by Friday, August 31st. Middle School Expectations Follow directions. Be prepared for class. (Bring materials and class work.) Be on time, in your seat and ready to work. Use appropriate language. (No teasing, bullying or putdowns.) No food, gum or drinks in class. (Water is allowed.) Middle School Consequences1st: Warning 2nd: Move seat 3rd: Removed from class 4th: Removed from class and parent contact 5th: Referral to office Homework Policy- Seventh graders are allotted 80 minutes of homework per night. The 4 core classes will split this time, 20 minutes per class in most cases. However, at times, one class may require a longer assignment and that teacher will notify the other core teachers, who will lighten their load of homework for that evening. Please remember that all students work at different speeds as we serve a diverse group of kids, so as professional educators, it is our goal to communicate as a core and with the students to adhere to this policy. You should expect your son/daughter to have homework every night, Monday through Thursday. It is possible that students could use weekends to review material, study, read, and or work on long term assignments. Please help us out by checking the homework websites and your son/daughter’s student planner and oversee homework is being completed. Late Work- The 7th grade core expects that all work be turned in on time. Work is due at the beginning of the student’s class period. If work is turned in 1 day late, it will receive a grade no higher than 80%. If it is 2 days late, the work will receive a grade no higher than a 70%. After the 2 days, the work will no longer be accepted and will be graded as a zero. This policy is for when students are present and do not have the work completed and for unexcused absences. All major projects/long term assignments are given due dates far in advance. If a student should become ill the day a major project/long term assignment is due, it should be brought to school by a parent or fellow student on the due date. In extreme circumstances, the parent should contact the teacher to arrange alternate plans. Projects and long term assignments are not accepted late. Teachers will not accept assignments via email. Part of the student’s responsibility is to bring the work to school with them. Extra Credit assignments will not be accepted late. Tutoring- Each teacher in the 7th grade core has set aside the following times to offer students extra help: Science- Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-3:30 Math- nutrition daily and before/after school and at lunch by appointment only Language Arts- before school and at lunch by appointment only Social Studies- before school and at lunch by appointment only Quizzes/Tests/Projects- The core teachers work together to avoid assigning major projects/assignments due on the same day. Major tests in all classes will be different days of the week, but students will be notified of these well in advance. Project due dates will also be given with plenty of advance notice. Headings- The middle school has agreed to use a common heading for all work students will turn in. Headings for all middle school students are to be written in the upper right hand corner as shown: first name last name date period Contracts- The 7th grade core uses a core contract in cases where students are continuously struggling with turning in work and/or behavior issues. These will be discussed further in class as needed. We are off to a great start and look forward to a great rest of the year.
