All of our education courses are developed and delivered by experts. They are created to be relevant to all doctors working in paediatrics and child health, and many other professionals. We have various formats available. Most topic areas can be considered for any of the formats. Listed below are descriptions of the different options currently available When filling out the project scoping document please refer to these formats. Online Programmes: RCPCH Education Provision has numerous e-learning programmes, if you are interested in getting involved in a current course please check the “current opportunities” page on the RCPCH website under Courses and Events to see what areas are currently being recruited for. If you are interested in developing e learning content but don’t see an opportunity listed, please get in touch anyway to let us know of your interest and we would be happy to discuss further. Paediatrics Today “Hot Topics” web series: is a special type of online learning being developed for delivery throughout 2014 and are online video sessions on contemporary issues within paediatrics and child health. These sessions are delivered by experts in the field providing the audience with short focussed information on the key elements, questions and ‘need to know’ information surrounding this topic. This series is aimed at Paediatric trainees, SAS doctors, consultants, nurses and AHPs as well as other healthcare professionals with an interest in the subject area. They will be accessible through Compass (RCPCH LMS) and will be CPD accredited. The format of each session may vary slightly but broadly, will involve a number of short videos offering an expert opinion and the key information the audience ‘needs to know’. This video content will also be supplemented by additional reading, reference, reflection and evaluation. Face to Face Courses: The How to Manage Series: is a programme of one day courses which have been developed for paediatric trainees, SAS doctors, newly qualified consultants and the wider multi-disciplinary team. The courses offer a broad update on paediatric sub specialities such as nutrition, mental health and oncology as well as more specific, common conditions such as bacterial meningitis and sickle cell disease. These one day programmes cover practical skills, diagnosis and management, and comprise of a mix of lectures and workshops, offering a broad overview and update on the topic. The Progressing Paediatrics Series: are advanced, one day, training course designed for senior trainees, SAS doctors, consultants, nurse specialists and the relevant multidisciplinary team. These courses offer specialised training delivered by sub specialists and experts in the field. Typically, courses focus on specific paediatric conditions, and their management and treatment. These programmes are one day and offer a mix of video simulation and classroom style workshops, and include the discussion of challenging cases with expert facilitators, multidisciplinary professionals and their peers. The training draws on complex real life cases, and the latest/newest therapeutic interventions. Practical techniques are supplemented by discussion based sessions focusing on the clinical decision-making process. The Effective Educational Supervisions series: Are one day courses developed for Consultant paediatricians, trainee level ST7and 8, SAS doctors as well as existing paediatric educational supervisors. These courses will include a pre-course portfolio of learning materials. They will focus on an introduction to the nuts and bolts of being an educational supervisor. The series will also include updates on RCPCH assessments, workshops on supporting the able trainee and doctors in difficulty, and being a good reflective educational supervisor and how to give good feedback. The programme is a one day course covering practical skills, comprising of a mix of lectures, workshops, and discussions. The Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Series: This one day training series is actually comprised of two different courses depending on the level of training require: Introduction to Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and Leading and Supporting Quality Improvement. This series is developed for anyone with an interest in quality improvement and patient safety including nurses, AHPs, trainees, consultants, administrators and managers. Both programmes aim to develop Quality Improvement and Patient Safety skills and will encompass a discussion of experiences in workshops, and lectures showcasing projects and learning about activities taking place in other organisations. It will also include opportunities to network and share ideas about QI&PS. The Evening of Evidence Series: a blended learning programme comprised of short evening lectures and pre course e-learning modules, which provide a good grounding to the issues discussed in the face to face sessions. The topics are designed to provide updates on the most recent evidence base for clinical practice. These courses typically appeal to a multi-professional audience, dependent on subject topic, including trainees, SAS doctors, consultants, nurses and AHPs as well as other professionals with an interest in the subject area, for example legal professionals. Safeguarding Courses The Child Protection: From Exam to Court course: This two day training programme is designed to demystify the daunting experience that being involved in a child protection case can be, and to give delegates the skills and knowledge needed to perform confidently at every stage. This comprehensive course covers two days of face to face training and includes hands on workshops, lectures, and plenty of discussion opportunities. The level 3 Safeguarding content is aimed at consultants and senior trainees. The Expert Witness course: This advanced two day training programme has been developed by RCPCH and Bond Solon for those working in a paediatric setting who are already acting in an expert capacity or wish to do so in the future. The face to face training is based on the foundation of written pre course preparation by delegates, and serves as an opportunity to develop and improve delegates own reports, discuss case studies with colleagues and trainers, and take part in interactive workshops, giving you valuable practical skills and tools. The course is aimed at consultant paediatricians, and SAS doctors.
