JOIN THE MAGNET TEAM! “MAGNET is a great example of how public-private partnership has created American business, employed Americans, and started to export.” - President Barack Obama, March 2015 WHO WE ARE We at MAGNET believe that manufacturing is essential for the economic vitality of our region. Manufacturing is again on the rise in the United States, and for Northeast Ohio that means growth, job creation, higher pay, and a more vibrant economy. As the leading organization responsible for Northeast Ohio’s manufacturing sector, MAGNET helps companies innovate, access financial resources, develop their workforce, and connect with an array of outstanding partner organizations. We exist to help people move into the middle class through growing manufacturing employment, promoting entrepreneurship, and building our workforce, thereby improving the prosperity of our region. ABOUT THE EARLY COLLEGE, EARLY CAREER PROGRAM (ECEC) A quick online search will show that Northeast Ohio has over 3,000 open positions in manufacturing. At the same time, many high school students graduate without tangible skills, the finances to go to college, or future direction. Generously supported by local foundations and major manufacturers, MAGNET aims to close this gap through the Early College, Early Career (ECEC) program, which will adapt the best of European-style apprenticeships to Northeast Ohio high schools. ECEC will offer high school students the chance to directly experience manufacturing careers through work-based learning, internship, and skillbuilding opportunities in high school. The goal of ECEC is clear: offer Northeast Ohio high school students the opportunity to earn college credit, manufacturing certifications, and even a job offer by the time they graduate. The schools, manufacturers, MAGNET Board of Directors, and MAGNET staff are all lined up to support ECEC; now we just need a Director to make this idea a reality. WHAT WE SEEK IN THE DIRECTOR OF ECEC MAGNET seeks a driven, passionate individual to spearhead the planning and launch of ECEC. This person should have a deep commitment to the ECEC vision, the ability to promote and rally others, and demonstrate the pragmatic skills to make it a reality. This individual will have the opportunity to: Lead a groundbreaking regional collaboration that will serve as a national model; Shape the manufacturing workforce of Northeast Ohio for years to come; Convene roundtables of stakeholders of top leadership from the public and private sector, with the express purpose of hammering out the details necessary to launch ECEC; Connect manufacturing companies with government, universities, community colleges, high schools, and more in a unique new way.
