Poppy Appeal – wear it red
Monday was “Wear it Red” in support of Remembrance Day.
We would like to thank you all for your donations and
support for the Poppy Appeal – the British Legion will let us
know how much money we have raised shortly. The Slapband
rulers were very popular this year! Everyone participated, the
children looked wonderful in their red clothes, and we even
had a Spiderman in for the day! Our dining room was
decorated with red lights and baubles and the children had
poppy shaped cookies to eat with dinner. It was great way for
the children to learn how to remember and respect all those
people who have served and / or lost their lives for our
country.

Road safety with children
The school would just like to remind parents to hold their children’s hands near the road outside school to keep
them safe. Whilst the road may not be a main busy road it is sometime hard for drivers to see people crossing
or spot children running out in road through parked cars. The safety of the children is our priority therefore we
just wanted to send out a reminder.
School Library Books
It appears that we have quite a few of school library books that are not being returned after
the children have taken them home. Therefore, can I ask if you could check at home to see
if any children have school library books hidden away on their book shelves and if so then
please return them to school? We are still in process of building a wonderful library for all
children to benefit from and would love to continue to allow children to borrow books on a
weekly basis.
Oasis Academy Watermead: Academy Council
The School Academy Council meet every 6 weeks to discuss all aspects of the school. The
chairperson is Jonathan Savage, if anyone would like to contact him they can do so through Miss
Vickers in the main office. We would like to introduce our new staff representative is Miss Russell,
EYFS Leader and Reception Teacher and the parent representative is Kashif Khan.
Children leaving school early
We are getting lots of parents coming to collect children early via the school office. Mrs
Goodhand would like to remind all parents that children are expected to stay at school until
3.15pm every day.
Medical and dental appointments should be made outside the school day. If this is impossible
then proof of appointment will be required.
Anti-Bullying Workshop
Monday 16th – Friday 20th November is anti-bullying week. Miss Brailsford is running a workshop in school for
parents to attend. The workshop will include information about bullying to help you understand what bullying
is, dealing with conflict and much more. The workshop will run on Monday 16th November at 9.15am. All
parents are invited to attend.
Positive Parenting Programme – Firth Park Academy
Our colleagues in the Multi Agency Support Team (MAST) are holding a Parenting Course for parents with teenagers as part of
their Triple P Programme. The Triple P – Positive Programme knows that all parents have different needs. That’s why Triple P
offers a number of specialist programmes tailored to suit all parents with very specific needs or circumstances.
Teen Triple P has been developed for parents of teenagers and gives you ways to deal with the kind of teenager behaviour
problems and issues that can make family life stressful. Teen has been evaluated over 30 years with real families and has been
shown to work.
Teen Triple P helps you:

Think about what is causing any issues and then set goals

Encourage behaviour you like and build positive relationships

Cope with stress

Deal with misbehaviour and risky behaviour
