LADSE Job Description: Autism Consultant
Summary:
To improve student outcomes by maximizing student learning and achievement through
effective consultation and collaboration with school teams.
Reports to:
Program Coordinator/Administrator
Qualifications: Multiple professional qualifications are appropriate for this position
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university program in Special Education
Teaching
A valid Illinois certificate or license endorsed for special education
Type 10 teacher certificate/equivalent license endorsed for LBSI or Autism or
Type 10, Type 03 and 09, or Type 73 speech language pathologist/equivalent license
A valid Illinois driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle in order to drive
between service provision locations in member districts
Preferred:
Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, problem-solving skills
Expressed professional commitment to inclusive practices
Experience using evidence-based and scientifically-validated instruction models
Experience using a variety of progress monitoring, curriculum-based assessment, and
diagnostic evaluation methods
Physical
The job requires light physical exertion (e.g., lifting, carrying materials or supplies,
Requirements: driving, clerical tasks while sitting or standing, and mobility) with the possibility of
occasional moderate exertion (e.g., lifting more than 15 lbs.; assisting students or staff
during instruction or therapy). In addition, it may sometimes be necessary to use
approved physical restraint procedures in order to maintain a safe environment for
learning. Independent transportation is required because LADSE staff frequently work
in multiple locations within the LADSE community.
Professional
Evaluation:
Standard practice is to conduct evaluations annually for the first four years, bi-annually
in subsequent years. Evaluations are conducted by the applicable program coordinator
or designee.
Contract:
Length of contract, salary, and benefits are established by the Collective Bargaining
Agreement and/or the LADSE Directing Board.
Status:
Exempt
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)
General
1. Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards for the practice of the discipline in the
schools, as dictated by relevant organizations, e.g. CEC, ASHA, IDFPR.
2. Implement practices consistent with the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
3. Implement LADSE's policies and procedures.
4. See Employee Handbook - General Duties, Responsibilities, and Competencies.
5. Drive own car, or otherwise provide for transportation between assignment locations.

Specific
Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
1. Work with LADSE and district programs/staff to identify and access community resources (d).
2. Demonstrate knowledge of current trends through the implementation of professional
development activities (a).
Domain 2: Classroom Environment
1. Provide consultation and technical assistance to general and special education staff and
encourage a culture of professional inquiry (b).
2. Establish positive working relationships and model effective communication skills with teachers,
administrators, parents and community service providers (a).
3. Implement a clear procedure for school teams to access autism support (c).
Domain 3: Delivery of Service
1. Model appropriate problem-solving, data-driven, decision making and instructional
interventions for teachers and school teams (a).
2. Assist school-based teams through collaborative team planning to identify strength-based
interventions, design of instructional lessons and units, and locate additional resources (b, d).
3. Explore ways to increase support to LADSE member district teams, LADSE staff, and families (e).
4. Assume a leadership role in coordinating professional development, resources, and practices
with other staff (c).
Domain 4: Professional Responsibility
1. Collect and prepare data to analyze district usage of autism supports (b).
2. Remain current on research, interventions, and methodologies through attendance at
professional development activities (e).
3. Other duties as assigned by coordinator/administrator (d).
