Genazzano FCJ College Position Description Title: Drama Technician Position Reporting to: The Principal through the Curriculum Leader: Drama Genazzano FCJ College is a high performing Catholic day and boarding school organised around 4 stages of learning: Early Years (including a co-educational 3 and 4 year old kindergarten facility with girls only education commencing from the Preparatory year), Middle Years (Years 5-8), Later Years (Years 910) and VCE (Years 11-12). Our Year 9 students are located at an off-site campus, All Hallows, in Brenbeal St, Balwyn, a short tram ride from the Cotham Rd campus. Reflecting the ideals and values of FCJ education, Genazzano aims to promote the spiritual, moral and academic formation of its students so that they develop into women of faith and strength with capacity to provide leadership in the broader community. The Drama program at Genazzano is designed to provide students with an exemplary education in all aspects of Drama and Theatre production and performance, along with a solid grounding in the History of Theatre; including current trends in contemporary practice and exposure to the Performing Arts industry in Australia and the world. It is designed to facilitate student learning in the theory and the craft of Drama and Theatre in a hands-on and safe environment where independence and creative experimentation are encouraged within a framework of responsible collaboration. The Drama program consists of: specialist workshops at P – 4 classroom Drama and Theatre Studies at 5 – VCE. There are curricular performances at 5/6, 9, 10 and VCE. At present, co-curricular performance opportunities are offered at Year 9 as a coproduction with St Kevin’s College. From 2015, a Year 7 & 8 co-curricular performance will be produced. The College also participates in an annual musical with Xavier College. POSITION OBJECTIVES To provide administrative and technical support to the Head of Drama To use initiative and be proactive in supporting the Drama program. This role requires a person who is passionate about Drama and Theatre and has experience with the process of mounting productions from planning stage through to bump out. Ideally the candidate could sew and repair garments and have the ability to design and make sets and props with assistance from the maintenance department for carpentry etc. The role would require some classroom support but also would involve late evenings during production seasons. This time would be negotiated before the production period (usually at the start of the year or semester), monitored on a sign-in/out sheet, and time in lieu would be taken from the weekly load accordingly. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Costumes and props sourcing, hire and purchasing and manufacture (where viable) of props and costumes for performances and return of these items cleaned and repaired (if required) in the postproduction week Manage costume cataloguing where required Costume maintenance, including repair of costumes, purchase of second hand costumes, making of some garments for performances, upkeep and stock control in the costume room and liaising with external hirers Drama Production support Errand running, organizing makeup, rosters, backstage running sheets, ticketing and refreshments Assisting with backstage on a number of performance evenings as negotiated in Department planning meetings. Usually attendance at the final performance evening/bump out would be a requirement. Administration support for the Drama department attendance at production meetings and the noting of minutes for meetings excursion and bus bookings ordering and invoicing of plays, performance rights, classroom equipment and staff resources such as textbooks and videos classroom support –ordering, stock control, displays and preparations for subject selection evening, open day etc, set ups for classes awareness OH&S requirements in Drama spaces and maintenance of Hazards and MDS sheets budget monitoring and updating Personal Qualities Strong communication skills Enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to work cooperatively in a team Conditions of Employment A salary will be negotiated according to qualifications and experience Benefits of the Victorian Catholic Education Multi Enterprise Agreement 2013 will be applicable to the role The successful applicant will be expected to hold a current Working with Children Check child and adhere to College Policies.
