On Tuesday April 30 th the F/S 212 Warriors traveled to Barrington HS to compete in the Bronco Invite.
This meet is nicknamed “F/S Sectionals” because of the talent that is there and year in and year out.
Simply put athletes that do well in this meet become State Qualifiers as Juniors and Seniors and has produced MANY ALL State medalists over the years. It is the best level of talent our program sees all year every year and it really shows the athletes what they need to do if they want to compete with the best in the high school careers. It’s no coincidence that the year we won this meet in 2010 that team won a Sectional in 2011, placed 5 th in State in 2011, and also won a CSL title in 2012. Yesterday was no exception as it was honestly the most talented group of F/S athletes in a meet I have EVER seen in my 17 years coaching and Deerfield hung in there very very well in their performances and most importantly their competitive character. All 212 Warriors attacked this meet and had a ton of fun while doing it!
The team finished a much improved over last year with a solid 5 th place out of 8 teams 122pts just behind 4th place Jacobs 124pts, and Stevenson’s 3 rd place 140pts. The Warriors beat Conant, Cary
Grove, and Lake Zurich, but McHenry in 2 nd with 171pts showed a deep and talented team and
BARRINGTON with 215pts outclassed the meet and is going to be one of the best teams in the State in years to come. Points were very tough to come by as they only score the TOP 5 in individuals and TOP 4 in relays so clearly a statement by the meet hosts that you have to be REALLY good to get a medal at this meet. Having said that the Warriors definitely left some points out in the field events as we had some
HUGE marks that were just fouls by millimeters that would have jumped us into 3 rd place and that would have been very exciting, but big marks don’t count even if you foul by a hair. Fundamentals beat talent overtime.
There was some BIG moments for the Warriors as the Sophomore 4x100 relay of Jon Sciarretta,
Kyle Oldham, Charlie Kogan, and Alex Williams broke the Sophomore School record from 1975 of 46.3 with a crushing 45.6! Congrats Boys!
Sophomore Chris Douglas broke the MEET Record in the 110HH of 15.3 held by 2012 Deerfield Grad
Adam Rabushka with a time of 15.2 and that also TIES the Sophomore School Record also held by
Adam Rabushka. Congrats Chris!
All in all a phenomenal day for our team and the improvement was incredible. We had as a team about
85% of all of our athletes set Personal Records that day. Character, Training, COMPETING were on display and this simply once again reinforces that hard work overt time makes you TALENTED.
Great job 212!
