Faculty Research/Creative Activity Grant
GUIDELINES
Academic Year 2015-2016
All CHAS Faculty Research/Creative Activity Grant applicants within the former College of Humanities and Fine Arts are encouraged, prior to applying, to contact the Office of
Sponsored Programs to discuss additional funding opportunities, including the possibility of using Faculty Research/Creative Activity Grant funding as seed money or matching funds for additional applications (such as to apply for an Iowa Arts Council or
Humanities Iowa Mini Grant).
Project Narrative Structure and Criteria for Evaluation
The application material will:
Be complete, wellwritten, and understandable to people outside one’s field
(unprofessional or poorly prepared applications may be rejected on that basis alone).
Describe project goals and objectives clearly, including how funds will be spent.
Describe how this project advances knowledge in your field.
Provide a detailed, realistic timeline for completion of the project.
Explain why any requested equipment is not currently available for use.
Include a specific total project budget, using the attached form.
Information for Grant Recipients
All funds must be spent between the time an award is granted and May 31, 2016.
Grant recipients must submit a follow-up report of one double-spaced page in length by May 31, 2016 , summarizing the work accomplished and detailing how the results of the project will be disseminated (publications, exhibition, presentations, and so forth). Failure to submit the follow-up report will make the recipient ineligible for subsequent CHAS Faculty Research/Creative
Activity Grant consideration.
Any publicity relating to a project awarded a CHAS Faculty Research/Creative
Activity Grant should include recognition of the College’s funding.
Be aware that according to IRS guidelines, items that have a useful life of one year or more become UNI property, or the amount provided by UNI toward the purchase must be reported as taxable income to you and the item then becomes your personal property. The amount provided by the University for personal property will be reported and the tax deducted from your UNI paycheck. A written statement indicating whether the purchase is to become personal or University property must be submitted to the Dean’s office before the funds can be released.

The CHAS Faculty Research/Creative Activity Grant program is competitive for those faculty members in the departments of the former College of Humanities and Fine Arts who hold a tenured, tenure track or renewable term position. A committee comprised of
Humanities and Fine Arts faculty reviews all proposals. An electronic completed application (application form, budget sheet, and narrative) must be submitted to the
Office of the Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences

). There will be three review periods with the following due dates for each: October 16, 2015, December 4, 2015 or February 1, 2016 .
