Amazing Central Italy motorcycle tour program details
A concentrated loop tour which starts in the heart of Lazio, in the “Eternal City”, and shall bring us
on the discovery of many various facets of the Italian panorama, history, way of life and cuisine.
From the western to the eastern coast, from the magnificent fine town Perugia in Umbria to the
mythical Sorrento in Campania, we shall explore a fascinating territory that enshrines the most
variegated concentration of natural landscapes, historical remains and reliefs one can imagine to
find in a so “small” area.
Day 1: Meeting in Rome (Roma)
We meet up in the afternoon at our hotel in Rome and pick up the rental bikes. We all meet up
before dinner and get to know each other through a welcome aperitif and a short but important
briefing, the time to explain a few simple rules for organizing and synchronizing things, thus
ensuring that everyone has a safe holiday that is unforgettable for all the right reasons. After dinner
we propose a panoramic tour of Rome by night on our machines.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Rome; included meals: D.
Day 2: 200 km
Let’s introduce you to Lazio that, you might not know, is the region where Rome is found and that
holds many other interesting treasures beside the Eternal City. We set out for the striking “dying
village” in the hills and Lazio’s Etruscan necropolises (Unesco world heritage site), via Lakes
Bolsena and Bracciano before getting to the beautiful Umbrian town Orvieto.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Orvieto; included meals: B,D.
Day 3: 190 km
Today’s tour is entirely set in the green and delightful Umbria. An enchanting route amid some of
the most interesting places of this peaceful and mystic land. After visiting the sublime town of
Assisi (Unesco world heritage site), birthplace of St. Francis, we move on to another equally
attractive Umbrian city: Perugia, a papal seat, like Assisi and Orvieto, from the 12th to the 15th
centuries.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Perugia; included meals: B.
Day 4: 285 km
It’s time for a change of scene, as we make for Abruzzi, bordering the Marche region while
crossing the Sibillini mounts. The little town of Amatrice, known for its world-renowned
“amatriciana” pasta sauce is our background for lunch. We’ll skirt the northern side of the Gran
Sasso massif to reach our final destination, just a few km in the hinterland from the Adriatic sea.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Loreto Aprutino; included meals: B, L, D.
Day 5: 200 km
We take a spin through Gran Sasso Park and a string of stunning perfectly preserved medieval
villages that formed the setting for unforgettable film masterpieces set in the Middle Ages, such as
Ladyhawke and The Name of the Rose. After a self-cooked barbecue for lunch on top the highest
Apennine mount (you can choose to have the famous Abruzzi mutton kebabs, for one), our today’s
route ends in the elegant town of Sulmona.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Sulmona; included meals: B, D.
Day 6: 200 km
A whole day amid the green natural parks of Abruzzi, admiring wonderful pristine landscapes along
fantastic twisty roads. Forests, charming stone burgs, lakes, and gorges are ours to see. But if you
need a pause from riding, today could be the right day for relaxing at the hotel and visit Sulmona’s
sugared almonds factories. Lunch in the green included, dine where you please.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Sulmona; included meals: B, L.
Day 7: 260 km
We drop in region Molise to reach the most southern destination of our whole journey: Sorrento and
the delightful Amalfi coast, thus achieving a complete change of environment, from high mountains
to gorgeous, coastal, cliff-side panoramas.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Sorrento; included meals: B, D.
Day 8: 0 – … km
It’s time for a rest: no ride today. Our staff and the hotel personnel are at your disposal to organize
your day. There are plenty of possibilities: you may choose just to enjoy the hotel, the sea and the
sun and go for a shopping stroll in Sorrento. Or you may wish to make a guided excursion in
Naples. Or will the marvelous island Capri, just offshore Sorrento, catch your fancy? No meal is
included today in order to let you completely bound-free from the early morning till late night …
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Sorrento; included meals: B.
Day 9: 140 km
The whole Sorrento peninsula is on the program today, a “wow” program indeed: few kilometers
only, in order to enjoy each single stretch of the amazing Amalfi coast (Unesco world heritage site)
first and have time enough to visit thoroughly the extraordinary archeological site of Pompei
(Unesco world heritage site) that together constitute one of the most beloved and unique touristic
area in the whole world. As well a typical Campania lunch on the Amalfi Coast and dinner in hotel
are comprised today.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Sorrento; included meals: B, L, D.
Day 10: 270 km
We start our return trip, that today will be amazing – but actually isn’t every day? We’ll first pay a
visit to the gorgeous Reggia di Caserta (Royal Palace of Caserta, Unesco world heritage site)
constructed by King Carlo of Naples, founder of the cadet Italian branch of the House of Bourbon,
to compete with the magnificence of Versailles in France. We then go on skirting partly the
coast, calling at the Pope’s summer residence, Castel Gandolfo in the southern outskirts of Rome.

Day 11: 200 km
A magnificent loop in Lazio awaits, rambling through the leafy Colli and Castelli Romani area,

is the only appropriate happy ending we could think of for this great adventure together.

More about the touring area
Many people know nothing about Lazio except its main city, Rome, the most visited destination in
Italy for “pedestrian” tourists. Yet Lazio has a strong identity that goes far beyond its capital. It is
an ancient and bewitching land rich in tradition, the authentic nursery of Italian roots where the
Etruscan, Roman, and Catholic civilizations arose.
A treasure trove of artworks and architectural gems, the whole region offers many and varied
glimpses of the past, of inestimable beauty and appeal – Roman remains, castles, crypts, and
monasteries – with such a choice that deciding what to see can be a real headache. All this against
an impressive backdrop of majestic parks and lakes, such as Nemi, Bolsena and Bracciano.
Lazio is still sprinkled with gorgeous noble villas, many now converted into first class hotels, often
nestling amid vineyards that offer visitors white wines as refreshing and cheerful as the region’s
people.
The Abruzzi region, also known as the green land of Europe because of its many parks, protected
areas and natural reserves, features the highest peaks of the Apennine mountains. Its highest
summit, called the Corno Grande, belongs to the Gran Sasso massif, very similar to the Alps, and
peaks at 2 912 m. The Majella massif, south from the Gran Sasso, features the second highest peak:
the Mount Amaro with 2 795 m. Gran Sasso and Majella also lend their names to two national
parks, while Abruzzi’s territory also includes the Sirente Velino regional park and part of the
National park of Abruzzi, Latium and Molise.
Actually, Abruzzi is Italy’s leading region for environmental conservation. Yet, despite the majesty
of its landscapes, the beauty of its many burgs perched atop steep cliffs, and the enchanting
atmosphere of such fine towns as L’Aquila and Sulmona, Abruzzi is still barely touched by mass
tourism.
As regards Umbria, the land of St Francis and St Claire, it exudes spirituality and is still an ideal
environment for seekers of tranquility and meditative moods. The region is covered with swathes of
dense woodland and expanses of vines and olive trees. This is a land of strong flavors. Wines, oils,
truffles and charcuterie, all of supreme quality, create extraordinary dishes wreathed in aromas,
fragrances and personality that permeate our tour amid the natural beauty of the Apennine
Mountains and the Monti Sibillini. We counterpoint all this with visits to the ancient papal seats and
Franciscan sites in Umbria, gliding through historic centers steeped in otherworldly charm, like the
magnificent towns of Orvieto and Assisi. Not forgetting the gorgeous serpentine roads that lead us
to the splendid monasteries and hermitages that arose in the heart of these mountains at the start of
the Middle Ages.
And there will be Campania, a very peculiar, messed-up region with a strong identity,
incomparable to any other place in Italy, that you will fall in love with or definitely hate but can no
way remain indifferent to. Out of our itinerary but liable to be visited individually on the rest day,
Naples, the city most often depicted in the classic Italian post-war cinema – with its chaos, its
theatricality, its immense contrasts, and its inhabitants’ unique characterization – is probably the
Italian town that foreigners know best, even if they have never set foot in our country. Capri,
Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Pompei, Herculaneum (Ercolano), the Vesuvius … are names everyone
has heard and dreamt of. And we’ll bring you there!
