Copies of ‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding
Your son/daughter will be studying ‘Lord of the Flies’ as part of their GCSE course over the next two years. We
would like all Year 9 students to read this novel over the summer holidays in preparation for their work next
year. Students will need to annotate their copy as they read and so we are asking if parents could purchase a
copy for their own child which can be used in class, at home for homework purposes and for revision. The cost
of this book is £6 and is available to buy from our Finance Office.
Later in the course we will also be asking you to purchase a copy of ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ by Robert Louis
Stevenson and a copy of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ so that, as with ‘Lord of the Flies’, students can
annotate their copies. We will of course source the most economical way of buying these in bulk and let you
know at a later date when they are available. We anticipate the cost for both of these books will be a total of
approximately £10.
Should you be interested in purchasing ‘Lord of the Flies’, please fill in the form below and ask your child to
return it to the Finance Office. Payment can be made by cash/cheque (made payable to The Castle School) or
by credit/debit card*. Students who are currently receiving Free School Meals will receive these books free of
charge.
