We aim to provide a world-class programme of relevant research into the manufacture, performance, and recycle of current and advanced nuclear fuels. For the first time in a major UK academic research programme, we will integrate the two Themes of Nuclear Fuel and Separations Technology into a single programme with a common goal. As Part of UCLan’s contribution to the PACIFIC programme we are looking for a highly motivated young scientist, to undertake research towards the award of a Ph.D. The project will involve designing and synthesising novel inorganic stationary phases for the use in continuous chromatographic separation of minor actinides and fission products. This PhD will provide excellent training in materials preparation and characterisation, furthermore the successful applicant will gain experience in separation science, specifically continuous chromatography which is a techniques which is gaining increasing popularity across many areas of chemicals manufacture. This position is a fully funded 3 year project, all fees will be paid, in addition the successful candidate with receive a tax free stipend of circa £14,000 pa.
