Media Invitation: 2nd Accountancy Best Student Awards
Members of the media are invited to the University of Limpopo (UL) 2nd Annual Accountancy
Best Student Awards, scheduled for 28 March 2012 at the University’s Onkgopotse Tiro Hall,
starting from 17h30. The event is a joint initiative between UL and First National Bank (FNB)
earmarked to encourage academic competency and to recognise accountancy students who
displayed academic excellence in 2011. It also serves to address skills scarcity in the
accountancy fraternity, especially with regard to the shortage of Chartered Accountants
(CAs) in South Africa. This occurs at a time when the University has been granted the South
African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Accreditation to offer Bachelor of
Accounting Science degree (BAccSc) independently.
As the official event sponsor for the next five years, FNB has allocated R300 000 for each
event (R1.5 million in total). Mr Terence Nombembe – South Africa’s Auditor General will
deliver a keynote address. Prof Mahlo Mokgalong-UL Vice-Chancellor and Principal together
with Mr Kgosi Ledimo-CEO for Provincial and Local Government FNB Public Sector will
officiate the event.
