Analytic Geometry
Construction Project
Worth a Test Grade
Due on Friday, October 9th, 2015
The idea of construction in geometry has always been an important one. Constructions with a compass and straightedge
have long been used to explain various theorems that are studied in geometry classes.
Constructions are also part of the standards that are addressed on the End of Course Test (EOC) for CCGPS Analytic
Geometry. This project is designed to help prepare students for the EOC and also increase their understanding of the
material. The standards addressed are G.CO.12, G.CO.13, G.C.3 and G.C.4. These standards are available online and can
be accessed https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Pages/Math-9-12.aspx.
There are 12 constructions to be addressed in the project.

Part 1: Each construction listed above is to be completed using only a compass, a straightedge, and a pencil. Each
construction is to be completed on the provided project worksheet. All constructions should have the appropriate
compass arc markings. In addition to the constructions themselves, students are to list the steps involved in making the
construction. The instructions should be thorough, but also be written so that another person could follow the directions
and have success making the drawing.
Part 2: Choose any of the twelve constructions you made using a compass, straightedge, and pencil. Create, on a separate
sheet of clean paper, a geometric construction using an alternate method (paper folding, dynamic geometric software,
string, reflective devices). Include the steps you used to create the construction using this method.

The project is due on Friday, October 9th, 2015 and is worth a test grade.

Construction Project Score Sheet
Name: _________________________________
Remember that the project is due at the beginning of the period on Friday, October 9th, 2015.
Part 1: Each construction (with written instructions) is worth 8 points for a possible total of 96 points.
 Neatness – 1 point possible
 Accuracy of Construction with Precise Construction Markings – 4 points possible
o No credit will be given if construction markings are missing.
 Accuracy of Written Construction Steps – 3 points possible
