Analytic Geometry Construction Project Worth a Test Grade Due on Friday, October 9th, 2015 The idea of construction in geometry has always been an important one. Constructions with a compass and straightedge have long been used to explain various theorems that are studied in geometry classes. Constructions are also part of the standards that are addressed on the End of Course Test (EOC) for CCGPS Analytic Geometry. This project is designed to help prepare students for the EOC and also increase their understanding of the material. The standards addressed are G.CO.12, G.CO.13, G.C.3 and G.C.4. Each construction is to be completed on the provided project worksheet. All constructions should have the appropriate compass arc markings. In addition to the constructions themselves, students are to list the steps involved in making the construction. The instructions should be thorough, but also be written so that another person could follow the directions and have success making the drawing. Part 2: Choose any of the twelve constructions you made using a compass, straightedge, and pencil. Create, on a separate sheet of clean paper, a geometric construction using an alternate method (paper folding, dynamic geometric software, string, reflective devices). Include the steps you used to create the construction using this method. You may find other sites that may be good references. (Google and Bing are great for this!) The project is due on Friday, October 9th, 2015 and is worth a test grade.
