Hirah A. Mir Biography GSA: Acting Vice President Spring 2016 Hirah Mir is a fourth year doctoral student in the Educational Psychology and Methodology Division. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from CUNY Hunter College. As an undergraduate, Hirah provided leadership training, conducted legal advocacy, and engaged in policy work for social welfare reform. Hirah's doctoral training is in formative assessment, self-regulated learning, and program evaluation. Her dissertation work focuses on how experiences of bullying and discrimination in school influence the ethnic identity formation of children of immigrants. Hirah has been involved in the Graduate Student Association (GSA) since her first year as a graduate student at UAlbany. She has served as the President, Secretary, Representative, and Social Webmaster of the Educational Psychology and Methodology RGSO. Currently, she is an active member of the Wages and Benefits, and Equity and Inclusion Committees of the GSA. Hirah is also serving as the Employment Concerns Chair of the Northeast Region for the National Association for Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS). As the Employment Concerns Chair, Hirah is working to develop an professional development handbook to inform graduate student governments on how to prepare their constituents for the non-academic job market. Apart from the GSA, Hirah is a member of the Future Faculty Leadership Council (FFLC), through which she works with a team of graduate students to coordinate and facilitate events on campus to help other students navigate their doctoral careers and prepare students for tenure-track faculty positions. Hirah aims to continue her community and advocacy work throughout her academic career with future involvement with the GSA and other entities on and off campus.
