Friday 25th September 2015 Dear Parent / Carer, The Year 6 residential trip to Skern Lodge is little over a week away now, and we are writing to you to finalise the details. We will be leaving school at approximately 9:00am on Monday 5th October, travelling by coach. With this in mind, we would ask that you ensure that your child is at school by 8:30am on this day. You are welcome to stay and see us off from the school car park. Our anticipated return time on Friday 9th October is 6pm, but please check this with the school staff at the end of the normal school day. Prior to the trip, there are a number of things that we would ask you to send into school next week: Firstly, as discussed at the recent meeting, your child will be permitted to bring an allowance of £10 (maximum) spending money for the trip. Also, it has been very useful in the past for parents to arrange a small medi-bag for their children. This might contain Calpol sachets, travel sickness tablets and certainly any required medication that school staff will need to administer during the week. Please ensure that these are both clearly named, with the money being placed inside a wallet, purse or something similar. Whilst travelling to Skern Lodge, we would ask that the children only bring a small number of sensible items to entertain themselves during the journey. The taking of expensive equipment is the responsibility of you and your child, although we will collect such items upon our arrival at Skern Lodge and store them safely for the duration of our stay. The only other items required for the outward journey are a packed lunch (adhering to the school’s normal lunch guidelines please) and a small amount of change for our stop (a maximum of £2). We would stress that mobile phones are not allowed on our residential trip. The staff will be contacting school twice daily to report on our activities and ‘touch base’. If you have any concerns at all during the week, feel free to contact the office staff. Please feel reassured that school staff will immediately inform you should anything unusual occur that relates to your child. Finally, we would like to thank you all for completing and returning both the medical information and ‘agreed conduct’ forms. We have every confidence that this will be a wonderfully memorable and unique experience for your child. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to ask them in school next week. We hope that you found the suggested kit list helpful as a guide for packing (yet another copy can be found on the reverse side of this letter!), and strongly advise including a large, named bin liner for any damp or particularly dirty clothes.
