Interests and activities:
My personal interests, knowledge and skills complement my youth work. I enjoy
caving, rock climbing, and mountain biking. I have always enjoyed active
outdoor sports and travelling, and have taken part in Kayaking, Canyoning and
skiing in the French Alps on an annual basis. In 2003 at 16 years of age, I took
part in a month’s expedition to southern Peru where we took part in such
activities as hiking in the Andes as well as team-building activities. For one
week of the expedition we helped to repair and paint a school that we actually
lived in for that week. It was a great eye opener that brought the group closer
together and improved our teamwork skills. In April 2006 I was a young leader
on Cardiff youth services Duke of Edinburgh award expedition to Australia. As a
young leader I was responsible for communicating with the young people about
their problems during the trip and helping them to overcome these problems to
improve the quality of their expedition. Since October 2007 I have been an
active member of Cardiff University Caving Club and enjoy taking part in the
planning and organising involved in caving trips as well as the social side. In
August 2008, 2009 and 2010 I took part in a caving expedition to the Austrian
Alps where the various caving clubs took part in exploring new and unexplored
cave systems. After this through 2012 and 2013 I have taken part in joint BritishSlovak-Kosovar-Macedonian caving expeditions in Kosovo and Macedonia.
Due to this I have spent weeks working with new people in a dangerous
environment and learnt the importance in communication and team work for the
safety of others and in achieving your goal.
I have taken part in several European youth work trainings, several Youth in
Action trainings on Social media, Youth exchanges and Exploring diversity as
well as one European Council training called 'Living in divided communities'. All
these trainings were fantastic for inter-cultural learning and understanding as
well as new and exciting forms of non-formal education and alternative
methodologies for youth work.
From October 2011 to February 2012 as well as from December 2013 to
January 2014 I was a volunteer at Love Kids Orphanage in Nkoranza, Ghana,
West Africa. My duties included child care such as helping with washing, play
work and help with homework with the main project being about promoting
sustainability through sun ovens. However, they also included plumbing,
farming, masonry and carpentry as well as basic mechanics. Since 2012 I have
lived on-and-off in Kumanovo, FYR Macedonia starting for my European
Voluntary Service as co-ordinator of a youth centre. This required a number of
diverse duties such as play work workshops, time management, foreign
language interaction, community integration and general maintenance. Under
my management this youth centre has also held several concerts and youth

events for local young people. I also ran several ‘English for Expression’ and
Leadership workshops within the centre set up Kumanovo’s first Street Based
Youth Service.
In recent months I have developed my professional ability as a non-formal
education trainer and coordinator. I did this within the Youth in Action
programme; I was a professional trainer on the ‘Accessible Project Cycle
Management’ training co-ordinated by Center for Intercultural Dialogue as well
as on the Seminar ‘ACTive YOUth!!!’ co-ordinated by Globallove Youth Trust &
Center for Intercultural Dialogue. Following this I coordinated an outdoor
pursuits based youth exchange in Wales including 60 participants called ‘Back 2
Basics’ which in turn was followed by a smaller youth exchange in Macedonia
called ‘www.nature.eu’. Most recently I have been a professional trainer on 2
international training courses. One in Serbia about the Kolb’s experiential
learning cycle and one in Macedonia about working with rural young people.
