Job description
Job Summary:
Youth Tennis Specialist maintains, grows and manages the administration for the USTA Schools and after
schools Program, High School Coaches Workshops, USTA/National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL)
programs and Camps.


















Act as the main staff and client contact for the above programs for USTA Northern California
Run all programs using a quality control and growth approach to accomplish the overall
organization's goals
Oversee and implement Section and National requirements surrounding all programs
Work with past, current, and new NJTL, Schools and after schools program leaders, aspiring
leaders and training participants. Schedule regular in-person meetings weekly to develop the
NJTL/School programs. (Develop = request regular client status updates, introduce and sell
junior pathway programs, help launch and oversee programs, and follow up).
Create excel spreadsheet with client rosters, information, updates, status, next steps; send to
manager bi-weekly.
Keep Tennis Service Representative’s (TSR’s) informed of the progress and development of
NJTL/Schools/after schools in their sections and utilize their assistance when needed, but act as
the main contact.
Introduce and promote USTA pathway programs (Kids Club, Play Days, JTT Leagues, and other
TAUT program opportunities) into NJTL’s, School and after schools Programs. Use marketing,
sales, promoting, outreach tools and grant resources to enhance and grow these programs.
Run a minimum of 6 unique Play Days at NJTL’s per calendar year with a goal of showcasing and
promoting our pathway of USTA programs (Kids Club, Play Days, JTT Leagues, and other TAUT
program opportunities).
Handle all event planning and coordination for Camps, NJTL Cup, Regional Training Centers and
NJTL Regional Training and NJTL Rally/Play Days.
Manage all administrative elements of all programs
Proactively promote events and initiatives to clients and prospective clients that will highlight
and lead to USTA membership growth
Train, supervise, coordinate, and work with volunteers as needed
Work in Alameda office three full days each week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)—
collaborate and coordinate with competitive play, player development, junior team tennis,
marketing, communication, and outreach.
Travel the Section at least 2 days per week (Monday and Friday) on client visits and meetings.
Be proactive and stay current with Section programs, resources, tools and updates.
Attend 10&Under Committee Meetings quarterly
Oversee and attend Conferences as requested by TSR Manager and work with Marketing Dept.
on the exhibit booth space
Attend department workshops, trainings, meetings, conference calls as requested by TSR
Manager or management.
Complete three Newsletters (NJTL, Schools and After Schools programs) every other month with
the Marketing Department.

Provide weekly recap and schedule of work activities and meetings to TSR Manager.
Conduct monthly NJTL conference calls with NJTL chapters and Internal Staff

Youth Tennis Specialist Goals
USTA NorCal School and after school Programs:

2 or more school and after school follow up visits per month. Set up meetings and meet in
person with key decision makers to discuss programing and next steps. Be the key contact in
selling and educating these individuals on the opportunities that USTA has to offer such as: Kids
Clubs, JTT leagues, Play Days, TAUT pathway, Grants and Scholarships opportunities. Develop
plan and next steps for follow through of these meetings. Keep TSR and relevant internal staff
informed of your status and progress.

Identify two new leads per TSR in areas that you feel as the School Specialist we should be
focusing on our school and after school programing so that we achieve our 2016 STDW goals.
Set up initial meeting/s with decision maker and attend with TSR.

High School Workshop – Oversee and run High School Coaches workshop in February with a goal
of 75 High School coaches attendees.

Network with and market/promote to High School Coaches throughout our section so that we
can start developing Play Days, JTT Programs, and all TAUT programs with their assistance.
Keep TSR and internal staff informed of key contacts in their areas to work with.

Update (on Excel) the USTA NorCal High School Coaches List of key contacts and coaches and
work with our Player Development Department on strategies to getting these contacts more
involved in our coaching programs.

2 or more site visits and meetings of NJTL’s per month. Goal is to adhere to the National
Standards and to work with each NJTL directly so that program meets or exceeds their
education standards (ask: what education component are they doing? Work together to enrich
this program). Furthermore, work with each NJTL to grow their tennis programing (play days,
kids club, JTT, TAUT programs, workshops, camps, training center and grant opportunities).
Become the main resource/contact from our section for these NJTL’s. Set up meeting and meet
in person with key decision makers. Following meeting provide a recap to the TSR in that area
so that they are informed of the work that is being done.

Help organize and set up the registration for 6 NTJL Play Days above pre-existing TSR programs
(minimum number of 20 participants—with a stretch goal that membership is built in) at an NJTL
Chapter (Goal is to lead into Spring or Fall JTT) and the Summer NJTL Play Day at Golden Gate
Park. These must be unique play days at different NJTL chapters so that the sites are trained on
how to run these in the future on their own. Goal is to work with the chapters so that they can
run these independently and we are training them so that we can lead these kids into our other
programs (NTJL Cups, Training Center, Camps and other TAUT opportunities).

Use marketing, promotion and selling strategies to develop the many other TAUT opportunities
at NJTL’s (Play Days, JTT Leagues, 10 and Under workshops, JD Pathway, Coaches camps, Grant
opportunities, FTC events, 10’s exchange, etc.).

Work to sell 2 spring and 2 fall JTT In-House USTA JTT Leagues above and beyond any preexisting JTT leagues by TSR’s. Work with JTT office staff to implement and oversee the program.

Oversee, run and handle all administrative duties for the NJTL Regional Training in May or June
with a goal of 20 chapters and 30 participants

Oversee, run and handle all administrative duties for the NJTL Regional Camps, NJTL Cup, NJTL
Regional Centers, and NJTL Play Day/Rally.

By end of calendar year, the goal is for you to be the main leader with all programming in the
NJTL’s (TSR’s available as a resource, but not main point of contact).
Communication and Outreach

Set up weekly meetings with other departments: competitive play, player development, junior
team tennis, marketing, communication, outreach and TSR’s so that everyone is in
communication loop and working together in a collaborative effort

Submit 1-2 Foundation Requests Grants each month to help your programs develop
