Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, Canberra Hospital: Chlamydia Testing and Treatment Pathways for Antenatal and Gynaecology Patients under 25 years or with Other Risk Factors for Chlamydia Infection All pregnant and/or gynaecology patients aged under 25 or with other risk factors for chlamydia infection and attending Centenary Hospital for Women and Children (CHWC) will be offered a chlamydia screen (first pass urine) as part of routine first trimester antenatal screen, or presentation for gynaecology care, if not already attended by their referring GP Negative Chlamydia Result: 1. 2. Continue routine antenatal or gynaecology care with antenatal or gynaecology clinician. Positive Chlamydia Result: 1. Clinician, who ordered test, informs patient and documents result in medical records and antenatal card, if available 2. Clinician refers patient to their GP or Canberra Sexual Health Centre (CSHC) for treatment and contact tracing, and faxes result, with patient’s contact number, to her GP and/or CSHC (Attn Nursing Staff fax: 62853395). 1. If attending CSHC, explain about walk-in clinic hours and ask patient to bring antenatal card (or referral letter). If possible her current partner should attend at the same time to obtain presumptive treatment. If attending GP, ask patient to make appointments for both herself and if possible for current partner to obtain presumptive treatment. Document copy of results in antenatal card1 2. 1Refers to ‘ACT Health Maternity Record’ or other antenatal document Antenatal patients are advised to have a follow-up chlamydia test of cure 4-6 weeks post-treatment with GP, CSHC or antenatal care provider 3. Gynaecology patients are advised to have a test of reinfection at 3 months with GP or CSHC 4. For antenatal patients, CSHC or GP may record treatment, follow up plan, and if appropriate contact tracing and partner treatment, in antenatal card. For gynaecology patients, a letter back to gynaecology may be provided to confirm treatment and follow-up.
