Clubs and Organizations
Registration and payment for all programs can be
processed at any City of Laurel facility during regular
business hours. Checks should be made payable to the
Mayor and City Council of Laurel

Registration is accepted on a first come, first served
basis. Walk-in and mail in registration is accepted so sign

Guest Speakers and Seminars
A Positive Word
The City of Laurel Department of Parks and
Recreation Division of Senior Services provide
recreational leisure opportunities at multiple
locations within the City of Laurel. We are here
to serve seniors fifty-five and older as well as
disabled adults. Please call 301-776-6168 for

The City of Laurel Senior Van Transportation
program provides a “curb to curb” service for
seniors and disabled adults for an annual fee of
$25.00. We travel within the city limits of Laurel.
Please keep in mind that you must call ahead to
ride. You cannot hop on the van or bus if you
see it near you. Contact us for a brochure at
301-498-3384. Pre-registration is required for
this service.
Dorotea Gonzalez Speaks
Health talks by Dorotea Gonzalez of Capitol
Hospice. She will present at the R.J.D.C.C. at
11:15 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
Healthy snack demo and tasting to follow Q & A
session.
Free Tax Service
There will be a free tax preparation service held
at R.J.D.C.C. on Mondays only from 9:00 a.m.
to 1:00 p.m. from February 7 - April 11, 2011.

Coffee, Tea and Cocoa
Freshly brewed coffee awaits you daily at the
Laurel Anderson Murphy Armory (Laurel
Armory) at 422 Montgomery Street, all you can
drink for fifty cents whether you use our cups or
yours. We also offer tea and regular and sugar
free hot chocolate for fifty cents per package.
‘Go Green’ with us and bring your personal cup
or mug.
Glaucoma and Visual Acuity screenings
Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan
Washington will again be providing FREE
glaucoma and visual acuity screenings. We
encourage you to come in and be screened
between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on March 8th,
at 7901 Cypress Street, Laurel. Please contact
301-776-6168 to make an appointment.
Inclement Weather Policy
Shuttle Service
For our programs at the
Armory, due to limited Armory
parking, we will provide shuttle service
from the Phelps parking lot.

delays when it comes to snow and ice. Please

Seasoned Adults Growing Educationally
SAGE is sponsored by P. G. Community
College and offers many classes designed just
for seniors on and off campus. For more
information send an email to SAGE@pgcc.edu
or call Continuing Education at 301-322-0159 or
pick up a brochure at the Laurel Armory or the
R.J.D. Community Center Classes include:
Barbara Brown’s Line Dancing class is on
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. at the
Laurel Armory. This advanced and fast paced
class is a fun and exciting way to exercise for a
low cost of $35.00 per person for 15 weeks.
Tole Painting
This free class meets on Thursdays at the
R.J.D.C.C. at 12:00 p.m. Basic supplies are: #6
round acrylic brush, paper towels, clean meat
tray, 2 small plastic cups, acrylic paint in red,
green, yellow, blue & white.
Current Issues
Up for a good debate on current local, national
and world topics? See you on Thursdays at the
Laurel Armory at 10:00 a.m. for group
discussion.
Basic Line Dancing
This free beginner’s line dance class is a great
workout that will prepare you for the advanced
class. Dance with us on Fridays at 9:30 a.m. at
the R.J.D.C.C.
Drawing and Water Colors Art Class
Join the fun on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. in the
Cabana Clubroom located at 14403 Greenview
Dr., Laurel.
Rug Hooking
If interested, call Roslyn at 301-490-1136 then
join us at 10:00 a.m. on Fridays in the
conference room at R.J.D.C.C. for the low cost
of $35.00 per person, for 10 weeks.
American History
Learn and share in all aspects of America’s
history from events, movie stars, inventions and
people who changed our way of life. Class
meets on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. at the Laurel
Armory.
Seniors in Motion
Start walking with us inside Laurel Mall.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to
10:00 a.m. on the upper level near the food
court. Enter at the main entrance on Rt.1. Call

Weight Training For Seniors
Dick will demonstrate and supervise exercise
routines to improve muscle tone and strength.
His group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays
for 2 hours starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Laurel
Armory weight room.
Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony
We would like to show our appreciation to those
who give so much of themselves to help support
Phelps Senior Center and City of Laurel Senior
Service in many different ways, on Thursday,
April 21, at 11:30 a.m. We ask all Volunteers to
R.S.V.P. at 301-776 -6168 no later than Friday,

Healthy Living-Fitness
Join this exercise class that will increase
flexibility, tighten and tone body and mind on
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:00
a.m. in the Laurel Armory Gym.
