This is a multifaceted post-doctoral opportunity at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Psychiatry, for a clinical research-oriented individual to play a role in senior level research coordination of a follow-up study of children, adolescents, and young adults at familial risk for depression. The study involves psychosocial-diagnostic evaluations and an experimental protocol with a psychophysiological component, focusing on emotion reactivity and regulation. Clinical aspects of the position include the conduct of research interviews with juveniles and adults, arriving at DSM diagnoses, and providing crisis intervention, as needed. The incumbent will receive clinical supervision that can be used toward certification. The range of research opportunities include access to multigenerational, cross-disciplinary databases of psychiatric diagnoses, indices of emotion reactivity and regulation including psychophysiological data (EEG, RSA, EMG), candidate genes/markers, ratings of mother-child interactions, and cognitive, developmental and psychosocial information from various samples. The candidate will be provided with opportunities to initiate/contribute to scientific publications. For a candidate trained in the scientist-practitioner model, this is an ideal way to further a research career and advance one’s diagnostic skills. Requirements are: doctorate in clinical psychology or related field; at least three years of clinical experience with psychiatric populations and related standardized diagnostic interviews for youths and adults (preferably in a research setting); research coordination exposure; and familiarity with the literature on depression. Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational and supervisory skills are essential, and boundless curiosity is highly valued. The position will require time flexibility.
