Dear Sisters,
365 years ago six women threw in their lot with the Little Design of Father Jean Pierre
Medaille. Their prayer was anchored in Jesus and the Gospel, their community was strengthened by the sharing of the heart in the kitchen, and their ministry was carried out with the dear neighbor in the neighborhood.
Today we need to ask ourselves: Can we describe our life in the same way? Can we say that we relate deeply with Jesus, lovingly with our sisters, and joyfully with the dear neighbor? Today is a good day to ask ourselves these questions and to commit ourselves anew to live what it says in the Consensus Statement that describe what a Sisters of St.
Joseph is like.
With affection,
Genoveva, Teresa y Sally
STUDY OF ENGLISH
We are grateful for the willingness of Robertina and Ruth to study English in the U.S.A. in
2016 in places to be determined. Thank you, sisters.
TOGETHER IN SUFFERING
With great affection and the promise of prayer we are united with the Gutierrez-Blondet
Family in the loss of their brother Sigifredo. He died in Miami the 11th of October and was cremated. In January his cremains will be brought to Peru to be buried in Ica. Meanwhile, there will be an 8 day Mass here in Peru on Sunday, the 18th of October.
We also pray for Fr. Carlos Capels, a Maryknoll priest, who died in New York the 22 of
September. He worked in the Sur Andino. He was 97 years old. May he rest in peace.

ROSA`S HEALTH
Rosa has finished her third chemotherapy and this time the recuperation was a bit longer.
Nevertheless, she maintains her good spirits and does all that she can to participate in community activities and enjoy family visits. She was even able to go on the outing that the Center House community enjoyed on October 8th—a holiday in Peru.
“GREAT LOVE OF GOD” COMMUNITY (Canto Chico)
Robertina shares: In the school where I teach, we have made the decision to be a
“godparent” to a student (one for each teacher) to help in their schoolwork and in changing attitudes. It is a project that need extra time on both the teacher’s and the student’s part. I am the godmother for a student in 3 “A”. We have begun our work together, meeting on
Mondays and Thursdays. Her mother has also agreed to be supportive of this program that is so important, especially in the high school years.
Maria Vasquez shares: In Canto Chico eight women have formed a group that is called the
“Jesús Group”. We meet every Thursday at 8:00 pm in the house of Mrs. Maria Gómez and the third week in the house of Mrs. Hidy. We start with a song and listen to the
Gospel of the day, taking some moments of silence and reflection and then sharing about how the Word of God impacts us, something from our daily life or other comments.
Finally we sing a song dedicated to Jesus.
The children of Salón San José are advancing in their studies with the help of the young people who accompany them. In addition, they help to raise consciousness of the children, this time with messages against the addictions of alcohol and drugs. The poster reads
“Please show respect for yourself and others by not drinking alcohol or taking drugs because we children are learning from you.” This poster is on the wall outside the salon where there people who are addicted gather.
“LITTLE DESIGN” COMMUNITY
Dear Sisters, many greetings to each of you from the Little Design Community.
The 4th of September Teresa traveled to the States to participate in the meeting of the
Design Team and the meeting of the CLC. She returned to Lima the 23rd of September.
Sunday the 13th of September our neighborhood organization “Las Brisas de Villa” celebrated 35 years since their founding. The ceremony took place on our street (where the meeting house is located). It began with a prayer led by the pastor of our parish and then the raising of the flag. It ended with a parade that was organized by the Municipality of
Surco. Several public schools from the area participated, both public and private.
It is good to see that the mayor of the Municipality of Surco is fulfilling his promise to our neighborhood community by paving the streets that were unpaved as well as improving the garbage pick-up and the cleaning of the streets.
The first of October Teresa celebrated her birthday three times: In the morning with the
Center House community where she was staying, then with her colleagues in the Confer where she works and finally in the evening with her local community. We give thanks to
God for the life of Teresa that she shares with her community and the dear neighbor.
The 4th of October we had the celebration of the Day of the Laity with some catechists from our parish chapel. The celebration took place in our house so we prepared delicious
chicken shiskabobs that included corn and potatoes. It was so nice to share with them as we ate good food and had an enriching conversation around a host of subjects.
FROM ZAIDA
Dear Sisters, it is with great joy that I can share with you that I am progressing in my study of English. Since last Monday I am in the advanced level, the highest that the international institute has. In July I was feeling tired in the face of this greater challenge, but little by little I am adjusting and now I feel more comfortable speaking in English. My companions have studied and spoken in the countries where they come from, but we are all learning
United States English.
Thursday, October 1st he had a presentation about a federal health program that is for all people who don’t have health insurance, even refugees and immigrants. It is a law that the government is promoting in the whole country. The deadlines are every three months. I am learning more about this law.
This weekend are the meetings of the sisters called “sectionals” here in the St. Louis
Province. They are working on the implementation of the Act of Chapter—the first Call to
Action about creation. I will participate in a group next Saturday. I am preparing so that I can speak in English to the best of my ability. We will put our reflections and suggestions in common. I am very animated to participate in these meetings.
FROM MARY LUZ (Also in this Noticiero there is a letter from Mary Luz at the end.)
Saturday, October 10th was the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation with more than 40 students that Mary Luz prepared. How special it is to walk with young people in their faith formation!
Also we ask prayers for Mary Luz’ mother who fell and broke her arm. She is recuperating well.
