Code of Practice COP 40 Issued June 2009 No. 40 – BAIT MIXER 1. BACKGROUND TO COP Reason for COP: To prevent injury and damage to bait mixer and operator while the machine is in operation. The bait mixer is used to mix poison over pre cut carrot baits. Employee Training/Skills Reqd: Only staff and contractors trained and familiar with the bait mixer screener are allowed to operate the machine. Safety Gear: 2. Safety Hat (optional) Ear protection White overalls must be warn COP WORK PROCEDURE 1. The bait mixer must be thoroughly checked prior to using it. 2. Before using the bait mixer each day the following must be checked: Quick visual inspection of the petrol motor and motor mounts Oil level Petrol level Check drive belt for tension and wear and have replaced if necessary Grease all grease nipples on moving parts 3. Staff are required to report defective or damaged components to their manager /supervisor as soon as it is discovered. 4. No staff shall undertake any mechanical repairs unless they are qualified to do so. 5. Check for loose fastenings. 6. Start the machine and check for undue noise and vibrations.
