Position Overview:
The University of Calgary Animal Health Unit invites veterinarians to apply for a
graduate program in Laboratory Animal Medicine and Science. Graduate research
activity can focus within a multitude of disciplines including sciences, medical sciences,
or veterinary sciences. A post-graduate degree would be done in conjunction with
developing professional experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Responsibilities will
include conducting rounds in research animal facilities, veterinary care of
laboratory/research animals, participation in Institutional Animal Care Committees,
teaching, research, graduate-level course work, and attendance and participation in
scientific conferences. The graduate program will be under the supervision of the
University Veterinarian, and where appropriate Assistant University Veterinarian(s), and
will commit 75% of time to a research project and 25% to Laboratory Animal Medicine
duties. Candidates must have a DVM, be eligible for practicing licensure in veterinary
medicine in the Province of Alberta, qualify to enter the MSc or PhD program of the
Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University and meet the requirements of the Faculty
and/or Department in which the research project will be conducted. The candidate must
be selected for the Laboratory Animal Medicine Fellowship of the Margaret Gunn
Endowment for Animal Health Research. Fellowship stipends of $45,000 per annum plus
an annual research allowance are available. New graduates, or graduate veterinarians
within 5 years of DVM degree completion, are encouraged to apply. Please submit
