The Pictorial Fellowship is awarded to a graduate student enrolled at the University of New
Mexico for work in the Center for Southwest Research Pictorial Collections. The Pictorial
Collections contain more than 120,000 images dating from the mid-1850s to today. The collections focus on the histories of New Mexico, the Southwest, and Latin America. Subjects represented include Hispanic and Native American cultures, archeological sites, mining, ranching, railroads, political leaders, artists, writers, historical figures, landscapes, and the visual histories of Albuquerque and other localities in New Mexico.
The Pictorial Archives Fellow will identify, organize, describe and also digitize the Albuquerque
Photograph Collection, the Santa Fe Photograph Collection, the New Mexico Locales
Photograph Collection, and the Officials of New Mexico Photograph Collection for placement in
New Mexico’s Digital Collections. These popular, growing collections together contain over 700 images dating between 1860-1990 of the state of New Mexico and important New Mexico politicians.
The award is for $15,000. The fellow will work 20 hours each week during the fall and spring semesters including finals week and the week before the start of classes in both the fall and the spring. University-wide holidays are excepted. The fellow is required to give a short research presentation in spring 2016 relating to the work accomplished during the fellowship.

Graduate student in residence at the University of New Mexico with a minimum of 6 credit hours of course work, thesis or dissertation hours which count towards the graduate degree.
Experience with digital imaging
Good communication, organization and time management skills
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Knowledge of relevant software applications
Previous experience in special collections or archives
Background in humanities and social sciences with a concentration in Southwestern history and culture, and/or photography
Letter of application specifically addressing the selection criteria
Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with applicant’s academic and work experience; letters should include telephone numbers for verification
Copy of a recent research paper (first 1-3 pages only)
