Science Fiction Spring 2012 Iverson Film Presentations – Over the course of this semester, each of you will sign up to present a short film clip of your choice that ties into the unit of study we are working on. It will be your responsibility to select the film, attain a VHS/DVD copy of it, and present a brief 5-10 minute presentation to the class that outlines how that segment represents some theme/aspect of the unit we are studying. Your presentation should be formatted into a typed, hardcopy that I can collect. For example, if you were to sign up for a presentation during our study of “Time Travel,” you might opt to show a clip from the film The Butterfly Effect. You would choose what portion of the film best portrays one of the following questions: (1) What are the theories involved in time travel? or (2) Would changing the past automatically alter the present? After showing that particular clip, you would then briefly explain its relevance to the topic and question, and maybe take questions from the other students in class. Each student will be responsible for at least one presentation. The 5 units of study we’ll be covering are: Aliens Children in Science Fiction Man and Machine (Robots) Post-Apocalypse/Utopian-Dystopian Societies Time Travel Your typed paper should include the following: the name of the film you selected, the highlights of your discussion, and an explanation of why you chose this film. Your paper should be correctly formatted with standard margins, typed in 12-point Times New Roman Font, double-spaced, and be preceded by the following header: Your Name Class Teacher’s Name Date Title (this should be the Unit of Study & Title of Selected Film, centered) ** The rubric on the back of this sheet will help guide you as you plan and execute your presentation. ** Science Fiction Name: ____________________ Film Presentation Rubric 1.
