Pursuit of Happyness Permission Letter

Dear Sir or Madam,
You are receiving this letter because your child is currently in the Careers class at Griffin Middle School.
As we conclude our nine weeks of discovering the value of work ethics, understanding our skills and
talents, and analyzing Georgia’s various Career Programs, students will view a film which highlights the
true story of a man who worked hard and never gave up until he achieved his dream.
The film is titled The Pursuit of Happyness, and it is a true story of a man named Chris Gardner who
worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Chris encounters various obstacles, but he soon realizes that
he can pair his wonderful people skills with his brilliant mathematical mind. The film is an inspirational
story of using your talents and abilities to your fullest potential, working hard, and never giving up, no
matter what happens or what people may tell you. The film is rated PG.
Because the film contains some mild language and is not rated G, I would like to ask for your permission
to show the film in class. I have asked for and received permission from Griffin’s administrative staff,
but I would also like to ask for your permission to show this film to your child. Please also note that I will
be censoring the film as necessary in order to prevent any course language being heard in class.
Please sign the below portion and return it with your student as soon as possible. I am happy to find an
alternative activity for any student who is not permitted to see the film.
Thank you for your time and your support!
