MP2 Project: Great Depression Newspaper
Assignment:
 Work alone OR with a partner to create a newspaper reflecting the
time period of the Great Depression
Criteria:
 Usual newspaper format: columns, individual articles, masthead,
advertisements, cartoons, etc. (Microsoft Publisher has lots of
templates that you can use for this)
 Name your newspaper—give it a catchy title.
 Articles should be at least two paragraphs long, with 5-7 sentences in
each paragraph!
 Work must be free of mechanical errors (proofread!)
 Work to be typed on the computer or neatly printed by hand. Use
blue or black ink only!
 Complete all items as if it you were living during the 1930s.
Resources:
 Use Chapter 13 and 14 for ideas, search on the Internet, and use
whatever resources you may find in the library.
Required Elements:
 Page 1:
 Masthead (name, date, city of publication and cost)
 Article on politics/government in the United States with
photo and caption
 Article on economics in the United States with photo and
caption
 Page 2:
 "Letter to the Editor" stating your opinion about a major
event taking place at this time (Great Depression, opinion on
Hoover, election of FDR, etc.) This should be one paragraph.
 Article on entertainment or entertainers of the 1930s
 Picture or drawing about entertainment or entertainers of
1930s, with caption
 Page 3:
 Political cartoon about the Great Depression (create your
own)
 Article on society (what life was like—popular trends, new
inventions, commonly held opinions) in the '30s
 Picture of society in the '30s with caption
 Page 4:
 Crossword puzzle using vocab, terms and/or people from
Chapters 13 &14. It should include at least 10 clues.
