The film, Brewmore Baltimore, will air on MPT-HD Monday, December 7 at 9:30 p.m. The latest film project from Maryland native Nicholas Kovacic, Brewmore Baltimore explores the beer industry from the perspective of the City of Baltimore, its history as a brewing empire and the city’s vision to reclaim the past. The documentary features authors Maureen O’Prey (“Brewing in Baltimore”) and Rob Kasper (“Baltimore Beer”), along with a cast of local brewers and entrepreneurs, who chronicle the history of beer in Charm City. The film chronicles Baltimore’s brewing tradition dating back to 1899 when there were 40 breweries within city limits. Despite the dramatic decrease of local brewing in the past century, a rebirth of Baltimore’s brewing tradition may be on the horizon. One example of this captured in the documentary is Union Craft Brewing, which opened its doors in 2012 and is the first production brewery in Baltimore City in nearly 30 years. Baltimore brewing is multi-faceted in scale, from small brewpubs to growing regional brewing operations. Nicholas Kovacic and Union Craft Brewing founder Jon Zerivitz will appear during the broadcast from MPT’s studios. Brewmore Baltimore will rebroadcast on Wednesday, December 9 on MPT2 at 9:30 p.m. Maryland Public Television is distributor of the film to public television stations nationwide.
