Sustainability Pledge

As you know, environmental sustainability has become one of the most critical issues of the 21st century. Baltimore
City Community College has long recognized its importance and has been working in many areas to reduce its
environmental impacts. From educating students and instituting sustainability principles. With your support
Baltimore City Community College will earn a reputation as a leader in campus sustainability.
This cannot be done without the help of each and every one of you. The first step will be to take the green pledge. I
encourage you to take this pledge and help craft a plan for making Baltimore City Community College a more
environmentally friendly place.

Energy:





Enable power management on my computer
Wash my clothes in cold water
Install Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs in my room
Plug my electronics and chargers into a powerstrip, and turn it off when I'm not using them
Take the stairs, not the elevator
Food:



Eat one more vegetarian meal than I normally would each week
Take only what I'll eat
Cut out red meat
Water:
 Not leave the tap running
 Drink tap water instead of bottled

Shorten my showers by one minute or more
Waste:




Donate unwanted items
Stop my junk mail
Air dry my hands
Buy used furniture, books, schools supplies, anything.
Sustainability at Baltimore City Community College connects people across the College with information, tools, and
inspiration for the challenge at hand: making BCCC sustainable for the long term.
