Weekly Newsletter Thursday 20th November 2014
Our Value for this term is Respect
Dear Parents,
Start of the School Day
The school day starts at 8.55am promptly. We are currently aware of a considerable amount of
children who arrive in school after this time. This is not only disruptive to the children who are late
but also to class teachers and other pupils. Please ensure that your children come to school on
time. A child who is late by 10 minutes every day loses over 31 hours of learning time during the
year.
Oxfordshire Mathematics Contest - It’s not too late to join in!!
Sumdog’s mathematical contest for Oxfordshire schools starts tomorrow Friday 21 st November.
It’s free – Students take part by playing Sumdog’s free mathematics games.
It’s fair – Sumdog adapts its questions to each student’s ability. Teachers can also restrict
questions to specific levels.
It’s friendly - To help small schools, you only need 10 students in a class to take part. We rank the
leaderboard on the average number of correct answers per player.
2014 Spirit of Christmas Concert in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign
We are all aware that Christmas is fast approaching. The deadline for the poetry competition is
even more imminent. It is 24th November, which is next Monday. Please can children be
reminded that, if they have written a poem for the competition, they should send it as soon as
possible. If they have not yet done so, there is still time. An entry form can be downloaded
from http://www.spiritofchristmasmdc.co.uk/competition_entry.php .
The winning poems will be printed in the programmes and the winning poets and their families
will be invited, as guests of honour, to the concert. The Christmas Concert is being held at the
Christchurch Centre in Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames on at 7:30 pm Thursday 11th December.
Greedy Guzzlers
Try our NEW Greedy Guzzlers quick activity to find out which gadgets in the home use the most
energy. In this fun and hands on activity, students learn how much energy different everyday
appliances and gadgets need to work – and how the time we spend using them affects the amount
of energy they gobble up. http://jointhepod.org/
